all I can say is good for her that she had that video evidence. See how they try to set up the Victims?? And, this needs to be addressed further - wish they would name the officer. Is that "Public information"??

Why not make things very easy and just put body cameras on all police officers. Then there is nothing to dispute.

Seen stuff like this happen many times, unfortunately, but with no cameras present. Seen people come out of interactions with the police with bruises and scrapes from being pushed around. Small, nonviolent, 100lb women  
even. They just seem to snap sometimes from the stress of their job and take out their anger on the wrong person.

Reality is if it was an average Joe who did something they shouldn't of at work and then lied about it, but their employer found out they lied, they would be fired, because they could never be trusted again. I've seen people over the years fired for lying to management where I work. In this case it should be no different.  
 
Now there''s no saying the cop wasn't suspended or is going to be suspended or fired, but we will never know in this case sadly, as it says in the article the police service will not be releasing any more info because its a employee-employer matter.

Complete B.S know wonder why we don't trust police officers. He should be fired and charged. Seems like the guilty get away but the innocent are charged. Typical Canadian justice system. Charge the officer and let his/her name be known

I don't think it's fair to judge without knowing the whole story. There are always two sides of a story. I don't believe it is fair to say rude things and generalize all police officers.

Your right it is unfair to paint all police officers with one brush and there is always two sides to each story. But in this particular case the Independent Investigation Unit which investigates police officers, has investigated and determined the officer was in the wrong. They also proved the officer lied about what happened.  
 
Read the CBC article posted at the top of the discussion. This is not just part of the story or 'word on the street'. There is video evidence to back up what happened.

Read it for yourself and then make your own informed conclusion rather than just getting on here and cop bashing. The BPS website also has a release and it says that further investigations may occur depending on whether the woman wants to make a complaint. I'm assuming that means LERA.  
 
In my opinion, this is far from done.

There is always two sides to a story the CBC is always biased to sensationalize news. Only the officer and the AP know what was said in the hall or if other people know they are not saying. The police are in a bad situation the majority of on the job injuries to police is during domestic disputes. Maybe something was said or the manner that was said the officer felt threatened. Only the officer knows how he was feeling. Would be interesting to watch the video maybe more people would come to the same conclusion as iiu manitoba

the news aren't any better they put the whole story and make situation bad or worse.  
The story looks to me is she says he says and none of us has seen the video.

LIU Manitoba concluded that the officer was dishonest in his report. I know that in my profession, if I acted that way and then tried to hide it, I would be fired. I expect the same from our police force.

I find it unsettling that even when there is video evidence and the finding is that the complainant was telling the truth did the officer was lying, AND the officer was aggressive with a victim of domestic violence instead of fulfilling his role, there are posters saying there are two sides to every story, it's not fair to say rude things about police etc. REALLY????? REALLY?????  
 
It is TOTALLY FAIR to say THIS PARTICULAR OFFICER did something wrong, and lied about it. Who cares if he felt threatened? Don't you think this woman who called police for HELP felt threatened???? How are victims of crime supposed to feel safe calling police if this garbage goes on?? This woman needed help and support, NOT to be roughed up, verbally and emotionally assaulted, blamed for the things someone else did to her, and then when she tried to stand up or herself (which would have been SCARY), accused of LYING, when this COP was the liar!!!!! How can his testimony ever be trusted in court after this????? His usefulness as a police officer has been severely compromised, and one thing is for SURE, it's not this woman's fault and anyone that keeps saying there's another side to this or cbc is sensationalizing is a hater of women. There is NO REASON to stick up for this illegal, unethical behaviour, and doing so only besmirches the reputations of other police.

This story only tells one side. Passing judgement without hearing both sides is premature. Maybe this was the fifteenth time he had been called there. There could have been a history behind this that the public is not privy to.

AP said she has never dealt with this officer before and is not certain how he knew about her  
situation.  
 
No matter howany times he's been there, there is no excuse for his unprofessional behavior.

This story is not about all men,which was implied, and it is not about all policemen which seems to be also suggested. I agree with the comment that this issue is not likely ended yet.

What does it matter if the police have been called once or 15 times? This guy is getting paid to do his job regardless, and his job is not to assault or abuse victims asking for help. Period. AS to the words spoken by these two individuals, I'm inclined to believe the complainant's account of things, as she isn't a proven liar and her account of events goes along with the camera footage.

You have to remember the lady involved wasn't being arrested. She was a victim of an assault. If she was being arrested and then things got physical, it would be different.  
 
But yes, it is very unfair to say all officers are corrupt and up to no good. Because that's not the case.

Don't know where my precipes comments went. .but this is very well said and I agree with u completely that it's alarming and hard to imagine people seeing this as a two sided thing. She needed help. It will deter others, just a very bad situation on many levels.this woman was calling cause she was being abused... then this? Not ok, and I can see this being far from over. People should have a voice and get the respect and justice they deserve, and not be scared to. This is appalling and I wish they'd name the officer so the public would know. I'm sure there's a few bad apples but in cases like this a name should be provided. 100%.

Blanket statements have no place in this discussion about one particular case. If looking to discuss this case based on the facts shared that's what discussions are for. If you're looking for somewhere to blanket cop bash you will have to look elsewhere.

While I agree, he should not have put his hands on her, no one knows what the discussion was between the two involved. The witness said it sounded like he was lecturing her. Quite likely the police have been to this address numerous times, and he was trying to convince her to get out of the abusive situation. Just because he had never been to this address, doesnt mean he doesnt hear this address come over his radio on other occasions. He has probably been to many domestic violence calls, and has seen how these can end. Usually not good.  
Sounds like she was getting frustrated with "being lectured" and tried to leave. Probably had a few choice words for the officer.  
Maybe he stopped her in order to verify that she did not want to press charges against the "abuser". So he could be on his way to the next call.  
Probably did not go as well as it could have. But also think there may be reasons for his actions.

Did u read the story? This two sided thing is not even debatable so people should really give that up in this case. Who cares howany times called there. Who cares? That's not his job to do anything but HELP her. That was far from helping and there's clear cut evidence. Its Mind blowing people on here not sticking up for her or the public since we all have to deal with them and we hope to get help, not hurt. It's hard to read some of these comments especially being female. I bet she was scared. I know I would have been and then it to be dismissed basically by many? That's terrible and there was two sides...one lied and abused...one didn't. Period.

understand that the officer may have initially been trying to help by "lecturing" the individual. I'll even go as far to assume the individual may have had a few things to say to the officer that would have made them upset. The problem is that "unjustified" force such as handling the person, or throwing her cell phone cannot be tolerated and the officer should be strictly disciplined. The biggest issue however, is that the officer lied to deflect blame to the person who called for help. Officers of the law must be held accountable to the highest degree for their behavior. They are human, but actions that show dishonesty or unethical behavior need to result in dismissal. Bottom line: police officers caught lying to protect themselves need to be removed from service. It's a stressful job, but dishonesty and manipulation of the system to cover up unjustified behavior is unacceptable. I dont want this lying officer "protecting" me or my family.

And at first i had the same thought as you. He should not have put his hands on her.  
However, there are actually three sides to any story. Her's, His and the Truth somewhere in between.  
Without being able to hear the actual conversation, there is no way to really know what transpired.  
He was there to investigate a domestic assault. Maybe she refused to give him any information on the "assaulter". Where he/she was located. If they had any weapons. If she wanted to press charges. etc.  
For the most part, these men and women are there to help, and put their lives on the line on a daily basis. If you do not want to be disrespected, dont be disrespectful.

That cop got caught in multiple lies now how often do you think he in court lieing cause his case isn't going right he should be like anyother person on there job charged with assault under criminal code serve time in jail lose his job have replace that girl cell phone! Now that girl should go after the city and sue for hundreds thousands dollars.  
 
It was prob 8 ish years ago after a oilers hockey game think was in Stanley cup play offs and there was a riot well Edmonton police guy grabbed this girl that was running away from all stuff going on and it got video taped him assaulting her. that cop lost his job and she sued city Edmonton for 1.7 mil I know this cause I worked with her bf at that time there is no need for that be professional if u can't handle job get a different one
