I dropped of a few bags of household garbage and recycling today at the city dump and was told to put everything into the main landfill area. I specifically asked twice about the recycling and was told the main dump... My guess is they don't sort that pile. Am I wrong here??

do have a recycling bin just outside of the main gate that you could of put the recycling in.  
 
Don''t think they let residents to take recycling in the Material Recovery Facility for safety reasons. And you could be getting in the way of city and commercial vehicles dumping there. Even if it was to toss off a couple recycling bags.  
 
And yes the city does recycle. Just because they didn't allow you to drop off a couple bags in the building doesn't mean they don't recycle.

If it was just a few bags why didn't you just put it into your garbage and recycle bins for normal pickup?

i could understand hat a person may not be allowed everywhere but why would the attendant not redirect to the appropriate place to drop off the recycling, instead of just saying put it in the main bin?

great idea to have some plastics and recycling bins at the public side of the dump. unfortunatley wont get used much as everyone has the black and blue bins at home with which to recycle.  
 
there is a cardboard bin at the entrance to the dump but your daily recycling of milk jugs, cans, cardboard etc is intended to be done at home and picked up weekly. thats the system and it works well.  
 
if its a trailer or truck load of personal junk there is lots of opportunity to deposit in the appropriate piles of recyclable items at the dump.  
 
the city actually does a pretty good job at recycling, better than most cities. Brandon has made it extremely easy to recycle. more people should be taking advantage of the opportunity the city has provided.
