1000s of lower prices at.... IGA?

Happened to catch the billboard on Richmond Ave this evening touting the same "1000s of dropped everyday prices" promo that folks may already be familiar with at Sobeys and Safeway. Only thing is this one has an IGA logo in the bottom corner (see attached pic). IGA is of course under the same ownership as Sobeys and Safeway.

Innocent mistake, or is there an IGA on the way in the Brandon market by way of a new store build or conversation of another store?

FWIW IGA did just open a new store in Regina as per:

at the bottom of the sign Pattison (Jimmy Pattison is also the owner Price Smart Foods, Save on Foods and Overwaitea.

IGA may have "jumped the gun" on posting a sign in a region, before releasing an announcement on a new store. If I were a betting man... I''d be putting my bets on the soon to be empty, Sobeys South as a new location. Hey, they already are holding the lease on that spot(or at least, Empire Foods already does).

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Most likely the sign was meant for a store in Sask seeing that they brought back the IGA brand there. The South End location has already been announced as being a "Sobeys Extra".. so unless if it's getting a random change, doesn't make sense why they would advertise IGA when there's no IGAs in the area.

I do miss the IGAs in Quebec, big beer cooler right next to the chips!

There was a time when there were no Sobeys stores west of Atlantic Canada either. IGA is possible I guess.

But, the Sobeys Extra is being set up across 18th street at the old Target location and opens as late as March. Leaving an empty, but a fully equipped grocery store sitting along the Canadian Tire location. It could easily be presumed that Empire Food Ltd. (The owner of Sobeys/Safeway) would used the opportunity to simply convert the space under a new banner of "low cost/warehouse style" food outlet like Thrifty foods or IGA.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

with the take over of Safeway by Sobeys I find myself doing less and less shopping at Safeway, I have been a dedicated shopper at Safeway for many years. I would hope an IGA would not be opening here in Brandon as I don't spend a lot of money at Sobeys either.

I Miss Stans and his earlier IGA.

I do believe IGA has about 54 stores out west. Unlike Sobeys and Safeway,IGA has local owners attached to the big boys.

Locally owned, franchised or not is a good thing.

Someone local needs to step up to the plate. It either small convenience stores or massive sized stores. I miss the mid sized.

Both "current" Sobeys locations are locally owned.

Sobeys started franchising the current Brandon format type store 1.5 - 2 years ago.

There are very few stores of this format that are not franchised.

The Sobeys Extra that is up and coming remains to be seen if it will be franchised or revert back to corporate.

Thanks for an informed post Brian D.

Re the billboard in the original post that I'd made, I'm sure a lot of folks already came to this conclusion based on how quickly the change was made to the sign but have been told by a rep for Sobeys that the IGA logo appeared because of some miscommunications. Or to answer the question I asked in the first post, "Innocent mistake" it is.
