Well it's oct.6/16 and I still have a humming bird at my feeder. She showed up on oct.3, and has been feeding constant ever since. She is a hummer I have never seen before, I've only seen the ruby throated at my feeder, and they have been gone for 3-4 weeks now. So I emailed a few pics and videos of her to some bird people. And it turns out she's a Rufous humming bird. I hope she continues here journey soon as she is getting snowed on this morning. Has anyone else had a hummer this late?

them in our olive tree. We don't even have a feeder in our yard, and I pulled all of my annuals early this year, so I have no idea why they are in my yard.  
 
I also have had two different finches living in my front yard this year, it has been nice to see them.

Oh wow! I love hummingbirds! We had one young one at least a week after all the rest had left our yard. He was sitting motionless on a cool morning. We put him in the sun with a feeder near by, and he eventually left. Haven't seen any since. I have only ever seen the Ruby Throated ones. I hope your little Rufous moves along soon!

Take the feeder away second week in September. They will stay if uyou feed them.

No! Don't take your feeders away. It is a myth that they will stay longer if feeders are up! The link below has some good info:

Your not suppose to take your feeders down!! Incase you have any stragglers coming later. This hummer must be pretty rare here are the emails I got today.  
 
 
Hi Amie, I am on the road right now but will get back to you as soon as possible... for some reason i can't see the video very well but i think i can see a rufous panel in the tail, indicative of Rufous Hummingbird, so i believe you are right because of the tail and other features i see in the photo. In Manitoba, late hummingbirds are often wandering Rufous. Do you happen to have any other photos from different angles?  
 
Is the bird still around? If so, could you keep me in the loop? Would you be willing to receieve visitors as there may be a few birdwatchers who would like to do see this hummer...

It sure sounds like you have a Rufous. It’s not that uncommon for them to wander in all directions away from the mountains. They are the one species that tends to do this more than any other. I would just suggest to keep a feeder out for her. In her time she will move on, and I’m pretty sure it’ll be soon. I also had a reported Rufous last year in the central prairies in early October.

I'm positively jealous that the errant little thing picked your yard and not mine. Manitoba is cursed with having only one hummingbird - the ruby throated - and cute as they are, well, there's little variety at the hummingbird feeder.

Everyone in this post refers to the hummingbird as a she - - isn't it more likely to be a male as they usually don't ask for directions.LOL

Curlysister, no she is still here. She is quiet the feisty little bird, chasing the chickadees and sparrows out of her raspberry bushes. Lol.

Well my little Rufous must have finally headed south. The last time I seen her was Saturday morning at 10am. It was sure a nice treat to have her visit for 12 days!! I sure hope she comes back and visits next year.

Aw, fly safe, little buddy! I thought about taking a road trip to Harding, MB just to see her...but is a bit far from me.
