Ok so I'm getting very tired of my current situation here...
I've been looking but my resume is not any help, I've worked the majority of time at a non profit organization and been very involved with addictions work, working with inmates in a halfway house setting and with the homeless all at the same place, most of the time I was responsible for up to 40 odd people. The halfway house means that I have passed all the. Checks needed to get the job
And yes you are responsible for them all on or off the site, I had to call on clients all the time because they broke their conditions or curfew or both, I have also. Been in the situation where I had to ask a resident to leave because they are using or disclosing others private info as in an addiction setting.
I have experienced the same with the homeless
I have also been a security guard in a psych ward and emergency room.

And yet, when I send in a resume for a position it is obvious that the prospective employer seems to not see that I have good organizational skills, and Capable of doing my job in a busy setting and prioritizing my time and responsibilities accordingly.
They also don't get that yes I will pass your background checks or what have you and am therefore also bondable. I have also trained many others in the line of work I am in with many different types of jobs. I know my resume doesn't say these things yet you should be able to understand that. So yes I would do well at your company. Yes I can do it. Yes I expect to get reasonable considerTjon. There are a lot of completely unrelated areas where I would be just fine . My experience counts and is still valuable. All I ask is that if after reading this you think I might be what you might need, I would love an interview.

Gonna be a long winter with nothing to do...

why would you not put everything on your resume?

Maybe someone else applied with more qualifications than you?

If you had an attitude that is the same that comes across on your post, I would not hire you either.

First Step - update your resume.

I maybe don't have a full college education, but I have real life skills. I owned and operated my own business for 7 years. I did most of the work myself, but usually I did hire seasonal help for a couple of months spring and fall, did all my own bookkeeping, purchasing, payroll and it was a business that had over 250k cash flow in a year, its all I did for my living yet now when I apply for a manager's job I get "You have no management experience" yet I just go "so my business just ran on its own?" Very frustrating

The point I was trying to make is very similar to the next post. Don't just read a resume, ask questions. And yes there are a lot of things someone just does at a job, if it is implied, that is deliberate. It means the person assumes that you accept their explanation that they were as responsible as they say. And that deciding they might not be very honest is something to ask a past employer. Also to say it's not that important,
Just shows that it is only unfamiliar to you not that the information is irrelevant to the position. Ask yourself, how many other jobs could I actually do, the more experience one has the more there is to consider with that....

Your resume should anticipate any questions that someone would ask and answer them. The only thing that is implied when you don't specifically put things on your resume is that you were too lazy to create a good resume.

Tailor your resume to the job you want

Check out the job posting, look for the key words and then work how you meet those criteria with your experience. Make sure you use the same words on your resume as are in the job posting.

Also, your cover letter should do a brief summation of your resume but also discuss how your personality is a match for their company.

With employers stating so much now to email only and do not contact us we will only contact those we are interested in, well it makes it way more difficult to be pro active on follow ups. There's a few places in town who specified that and being old school and believing in the theory of enforcing you are interested, contacted them to receive a grunt and we have no time to talk to yous. Now I get employers are busy, and they are trying to eliminate or weed out what they don't want/ want with the emails first. If your resume doesn't stand out your shit outta luck. So don't expect them to ask you questions, assume you've trained others or any other form of extra work. Be point blank, dummy / foolproof your resume so at first look they'll know by thst part alone if your in the running. Good luck it's tough out there finding a decent if any job.

List your education/ seminar/ classes from the past 5 years. Many people forget that if you have taken courses related to the job it's another layer to show that your serious. Also put that you have or are willing to show proof of being bondable or a clean criminal check/ CPR and other licenses. Also look into similar jobs or upgrade opportunities. Good luck

You sound like you have fantastic experience and much needed skills, so why wouldn't you say that on your resume? You seem to know what you need but also seemingly are refusing to do it, why?

Employers can receive hundreds of resumes for a single posting, it is up to applicants to make their resume stand out and promote further inquiry. Employers do not have time to scrutinize every one, looking for what you could have made apparent in a summary or cover letter.

You say you need a job so why are you making it harder to hire you?

i think you need to go get help with your resume And dont forget the COVER LETTER, that is where you can say stuff, like bondable, that doesnt fit in the resume format and really sell yourself

your resume should be concise but also tell them what you can do for them, what your skills are and where you got them so go talk to someone and show them your resume or you can pm me it and i can take a look

also different employers value different things, i know i passed up more skilled workers to hire someone with a great attitude that was willing to learn not all company's would make that choice, i also gave top dollar to one that could show they worked hard ect so sometimes it not "you" per-say, it "you" were not the [i] best [/i]fit

As a person that has decided on who to interview and who to hire many times, I have to say that when looking at resumes they all begin to look alike. They have previous employment, education, experience, hopefully references that are worth the paper they are written on and blah blah blah.
A well written cover letter lets us know a little bit about you. It sometimes includes things that we are not allowed to ask and therefore at least for me, gives you a personality on paper. Many times I called for interviews based strictly on the cover letter.

I really try to fill a position without advertising it. For that reason I'd guess a lot of positions MOST positions aren't advertised. Walk in and talk to the receptionist, drivers, teller, bag boy, janitor. The manager doesn't want to talk to you, that's not being rude it's just how it is, they've got a lot going on...but when one of my guys says they were talking to someone they think would work I usually say "cool, give me his info and I'll give him a call".

I like to see a 'Skills Sections'. When I was searching for work, I used it to help tie together what I had to offer. I categorized the skills, and made sure to highlight the ones that were relevant to the job I was applying for.

Take ceys up on their services, they should be able to help. Thoroughly proofread the resume and cover letter - spelling of grammatical errors often drive hiring managers batty and decrease the chance of selection for an interview.

A well written cover letter that isn't overly cocky, but clearly lays out why you are a logical choice for the position, is very helpful.

Thanks for the suggestions, that is what really helps, we should open a new discussion with all anonymous users so employers and seekers can open a Frank dialog. Kind of an afterthought session.
