"Raining Shots" comment sensationalized?

The crown attorney stated that "all hell is breaking loose" and "people are raining shots out into the streets".

The mayor as you can read in the article "felt it was a little broad and sensational statement".

Do you think those statements by the crown attorney are sensationalized?

I sure don't. We live within blocks of these shootings with my grandchildren across the street. The children cannot go play in the yard. Where the children sleep is even an issue if by chance there is a stray bullet. Yes these shootings are targeted according to the police BUT they are taking place in quiet residential neighborhoods. How many more guns are out there?

I have always felt safe in my neighborhood until now. House prices were starting to appreciate more in the area as well but with these repeated shootings they have tanked our house prices. I know these kind of things can happen anywhere but when there have been three violent incidents in a matter of weeks in the area we need more from the mayor than that he us disappointed in the crowns statement. We need clear communication about about what will be done and when so the kids can play safely outside again.

who obviously is concerned with what is going on in Brandon. Does she not have a good idea of what is going on in the city? I think she knows exactly what's up!

Yup seeing 59 incidents over the last week around Brandon. Everything from shoplifting to you name it. East end has gone crazy in offences. There were 9 offences in the last week according to the crime reports map. That doesn't include CFS runaways or anything like that. That is friggin unacceptable. I really hope that the police have increased their patrols 10X in the east end. We are becoming the next North End of Winnipeg. Will I walk at dark? Yes. Do I feel safe in our city? Yes. Will I let my child play outside? Yes. Do I think the police are doing a good job? Yes. Soon enough you won't hear much in the city cause it will be cold soon and everyone will be inside instead of running lose in the streets.

I agree with the crown attorney. Brandon has always had the odd shooting from time to time over the years, but there has been four shootings in less than month. Two within spitting distance of each other and a home invasion less than a block away and even thought police have made several arrests in the last two weeks as a result of the recent shootings, there's has been another shooting(not blaming police, they have been doing a great job). There's also been a couple people arrested in the last few weeks with guns on them. In the one case someone was threatened with a handgun and the other was a guy who was pulled over with a shot gun and several bags of drugs in his vehicle. So obviously there's something going on in this city and it involves a lot of people. I hope this isn''t going to be the new norm.

i:nclude things that people are not feeling comfortable enough to call in about, such as suspicious activity that you can't quite put your finger on, aggressive behaviours, and other things like violent parties, drunk neighbors taking off in vehicles......

And what of the serious incidents that have happened and are no where to be found in BPS reports?

I don't know what the solution is but I know I do not feel safe in my neighborhood right now, and a bit more information from BPS and city council members might help clear things up.

I wonder if it would be considered broad and sensational if it was the mayor's residence? Chrest can say Brandon is a very safe city but if the residents aren't feeling safe, those are empty words. I think his words were an insult to the crown attorney. I think the crown attorney might see what's going on and have a clue. The issues can't be solved if official don't admit there are problems! Once again, disappointed that the only thing that matters to city hall is how Brandon is perceived. God forbid we show our blemishes. What about everything going on in this city that we don't hear about or like Foxtrot posted, too apprehensive to bring attention to?

Time to get real, City of Brandon. Shame on you for downplaying some very serious words from the federal crown attorney. Some of us prefer to hear the truth instead of having everything sugar-coated.

the Judge to deny this man bail and she did.

We need tougher laws too. People break laws again and again because they don't have to serve enough time in jail.

Is the city of Brandon going to help those who want out of the close proximity to get fair market value for their homes? NO
so some people feel unsafe, trapped and let down.

People who live in that area are allowed to feel this way and who are we to tell them otherwise. Unless you are living it then how can anyone on this site tell people how to feel or to chill out.

Lock everyone of the people caught up without bail until they get to the bottom of it. I agree with the crown

It's not just the east end of Brandon that's problematic, try driving down rosser ave. on any given day in the afternoon and see the nice social set hanging around down there! Good luck renaissance Brandon!

the Crown's responsibility to lock these people up without bail and serve the appropriate sentence. Is it BPS and the city's fault that these people are getting released on bail the next day?

It's the lenient court system that just gives these people a slap on the hand and told not to do it again. BPS caught one of these guys a week later violating his probation that was give by the court.
