Omgoodness I don't even know what I'm asking but here I go. Would anyone have any advice if 20 gigs a month would be sufficient ? I'm a bit of a Netflix streamer as well. That would be my biggest download I'd say. I live in the sticks and I'm frustrated with my provider and thinking of using my phone as a hotspot...?

We have Netset with a 60 GB a month package. We come close every month to the 60 mark and we roughly use 1 to 2 GB's per day for just surfing the internet and emails . When we do use netflix or streamimg other stuff it can eat up you GB's real quick (check your Netflix settings and make sure it is set at the lowest download speed to save GB's as usally it is set at auto which can download the most GB's for the best quality picture)

If you are going to use phone as hotspot its best to get a unlimited data plan because once you go over your limit you will get big time charges for data usage. 20 Gigs a month is not that much especially if you are streaming.

"Unlimited" data is capped at 5GB and then you are slowed down to dial-up speeds. Not worth it. And no, tethering does not download everything twice. Something is wrong with your device if that is happening to you.

I've never had issues with being "capped" in Manitoba and having speeds reduced. I use my data for streaming movies, music everyday and don't have any issues unless I'm in a bad cell area. If you are worried about data speeds what would your solution be for the OP?

Actually, MTS throttles your speed after you go over 15 gb in a month if you have unlimited data.

My apologies, I was incorrect about it being 5GB. Here is from MTS website:  
 
"If you are an MTS CDMA customer and your total usage exceeds the 10GB threshold in a 30-day period, your data speed will be slowed to 128 kilobits per second for downloads and uploads, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the remainder of the 30-day period.  
 
If you are an MTS HSPA/LTE customer and your total usage exceeds the 15GB threshold in a 30-day period, your data speeds will be slowed to 512 kilobits per second for downloads and uploads, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the remainder of the 30-day period."  
 
My suggestion to the OP is fixed wireless, which they say is causing problems. There are other companies out there however.

Actually, that is exactly what I use. I have the unlimited plan and it works fine for me for Netflix. The only thing that I had to ensure is to adjust my Netflix settings to the lowest consumption of bandwidth. I basically just read the news, facebook, and play Clash of Clans or Clash Royal besides that.

We had the LTE 120GB package from netset and used it for netflix. I think the most we ever use is 100GB a month but thats watching at least 2 - 3 hours a night or binge watching series on weekends lol. I've never tethered from my phone though.
