If your employer lays you off do they need to give written notice?  
Also how long do they have before they need to issue an record of employment?  
If they don't give proper notice are you entitled to severance pay?

Check out this link. An employer will give you notice or pay you severance. An ROE, I believe needs to be handed out no later than 30 days after termination but I could be wrong.

Chances are most employers will give you pay in lieu of notice. Also I know for us ROEs are digital now. They are automatically submitted to the government and are able to be viewed under "My Account"

ROE's are mostly digital now so you just need to go to service canada and open your file, then when your employer submits your ROE online it'll match up with your claim and everything will happen digitally. no more paper ROE's. usually an employer will issue an ROE along with your final cheque.

We have done that too. You can do an immediate layoff of 8 weeks without notice. If you are not called back after 8 weeks then you are paid out your notice.
