What fun is it, really, for children of all ages, to watch 'vehicle' after vehicle drive by in a 'Christmas Parade'?  
 
I have been involved in different organizations that put FLOATS in Christmas Parades, and I DO understand how much time and volunteer effort goes in to creating one of these....  
 
And I am also not wanting to hear that lovely floats do exist, because I am WELL aware of those that are fun and colorful and festive....  
 
Now, I feel that kids and adults are really let down when 80% of the entries in a Santa or Christmas parade are just business vehicles driving down the street. It is pretty sad. And with the amazing turn out that such events get, even on very cold, terribly windy nights, people must be disappointed.  
 
It's a parade!! Maybe the entries should be whimsical, fun, colorful, musical and joyous!! Not just cars - driving down the street. And some will say, 'Then don't go!', and those will be the ones who wouldn't understand how kids perceive special events like this. It's supposed to be magical for them, so we go....

Did your kids complain? Because mine are still outright enchanted with the parade (ages 2 to 10).  
 
The "float" they talk about the most was the one a few years ago with a tow truck towing a tow truck, towing a tow truck. This year it was the tow truck "dressed" as a reindeer and candycane.  
 
I thought many of the entries were well-done and fun. We always have a great time. I find if the parents are enthusiastic, the children often are too. If the parent poo-poo it, the kids will catch that attitude as well.

I have been watching e-brandon for a complaint about it - happens every year, Not everyone has the time to do a big fancy float or the resource. Long as Santa shows up, that is all the matters.

This would be a great opportunity to make your own float to put into it for the next year!

I've been involved with other parades in a different city. I know it takes time and energy to put in a float but when you sign up for a parade, it's just part of the commitment. A parade of lights should be just that....lights! Floats need to be lit up and not leave people wondering, "who put in that float?" They should be fun, magical and Christmas like.  
 
Unfortunately, we are usually disappointed with Brandon's parade. Like the OP said, it's just a lot of vehicles simply decorated and not actual floats that involved the work it should.  
 
People are allowed to say whether they like it or not and why or why not. Constructive critism has its place.
