According to the below documents, Sobeys in the west end will move to the site of the old Zellers building beside the current location and a new store will be built. Also several other buildings including a gas station will be built in the parking lot, as long as the development gets approval from the city. Hopefully everything works out. It would be nice to see that area finally developed.

I don't know why they're moving next-door why don't they just demolish the old sellers rebuild right there it's a bigger space anyways

If you read what the OP posted and the link, they both say that they are demolishing the old Zellers building and constructing a new building in it's place. They are then going to renovate the old Sobey's and make smaller units in it along with other businesses including a gas bar.

They should just demolish all of that and use the space for a costco. It would be perfect.

We at the west end love our West End Sobeys and would never want to give it up even for a Costco.

I don't understand what is so great about Costco, I seem to walk out without spending any money. I did buy something online, because it let me with no membership and I couldn't find it in Brandon.  
 
Just this week we have decided to buy a Dyson vacuum. We know what model we want and I checked every store in Brandon and they were all the same price. Decided to check Costco and it was $150 more than any store I checked.

Costco won't set up in Brandon until all the Brandon Costco shoppers stop shopping at the Winnipeg Costco. Why should they? They have your business anyway. When they think that they'll lose sales if they don't establish in Brandon, or when they think that they can significantly increase their overall Manitoba sales with a Brandon presence - then Costco management will make that move.  
 
They're not going to spend several millions in Brandon just to shorten the drive for their existing clients. And they sell bulk, which means that by definition a trip in to Winnipeg Costco from rural areas makes sense. If you have a large trunk. That's what they do.  
 
Back on topic, I really look forward to the re-development of the 34th Str.and Vic. Ave. corner. It's long long overdue and I hope that it comes off well, whichever retailers establish there. It has always seemed like a site with a lot of potential and prime for development.  
 
I've wondered if the owners of this property haven't over the years been holding out for an unrealistically sweet opportunity.

I agree, I love west end sobeys as well!!

both are moving. Westend Sobeys will be moving into a new building were a demolished portion of the former Zellers is.  
 
From the documents in the OP.  
'The redevelopment of WestVic Common is intended to be constructed in multiple phases as follows:  
Phase 1: Developer to receive demo permit and demolish approximately 48,300 sq. ft. of the east end of  
the existing/unoccupied Zellers building and provide services and compacted granular pad for Sobeys  
new building. Sobeys shall receive building permit and construct a new prototypical grocery store  
consisting of approximately 47,509 sq. ft. which shall i:nclude outdoor sales/storage area as shown on  
Schedule “A” (the new grocery building shall hereinafter be referred to as the “New Sobeys”). The  
conceptual elevation for the New Sobeys is attached hereto as Schedule “C”. The Developer shall install  
a new asphalt top coat to the parking lot, new parking lot lighting, landscaping and reconstruct Zellers '

Yes, the south end Sobey's is moving, but if you actually follow the links, the west end one is moving (or hoping to) as well. You may want to get your own facts straight before you post.

You are confused. This thread is about the old zellers bldg that became Fields on 34th St. The bldg that is currently next door to west end Sobeys. This is not about the south end (by cdn tire) Sobeys moving into old zellers then Target store on 18th St.  
This is saying that sobeys west end will be moving to the bldg next door after being rebuilt.  
Both Sobeys in Bdn would move, this is just next door though.  
 
As for comment about getting rid of sobeys and put in a Costco. No thanks. We LOVE our West end Sobeys and wouldn't trade it for anything.  
This project would be fantastic for the west end so I hope it all goes through.

I would love it if there was a west end Tim Hortons in the parking lot!!
