third street dam

The Brandon Sun has reported that the third street dam is broken!! Two sections have bit the dust! The report states that later this summer they will spend coin(probably lots) to check out what happened and also to inspect the others by using hired divers.
That water flow is fast and I am sure it is dangerous. This thing was built in the 40's. What is the lifespan of that type of structure anyways?? I figure save the inspection cost--build a new one if it is near the end of its lifetime anyways!!They should not "prop up" a end of life structure!
