So, got the dreaded phone call from ColonCheck yesterday...."you need further testing"....sigh..  
 
Husband had a colonoscopy last year, with an arrogant Dr. and I had a surgery with the same Dr as well, really did not care for him or his attitude. Wondering if there are any other Dr.'s in Brandon who do this procedure and what your thoughts are on who is the best?  
Your input would be appreciated!

He has a great bedside manner. He is at the Brandon Clinic.

I don't think I would ever use the term best doctor, since I have never had a bad experience as far as doctors or the medical system.  
I can only comment on the doctor that I have been to, and that is Doctor Ahweng, he's a pretty busy doctor with private practice as well as surgery responsibilities, he is practicing out of Wheat City Medical.  
Nothing but good things to say about him as a professional, and a person.

who are respectful to their patients, Dr. Goossen most definitely, Dr. Ahweng and also Dr. Barbara McKalski, all awesome doctors who treat their patients well.

for a different procedure and yes very pleasant man and bedside manner.  
 
I assume I know who you mean the other doctor is arrogant but I trust him since my Dr trusts him and recommends him. Doesn't mean all the times I have seen him I have enjoyed my visits lol. in fact I was against arrogant dr many times.  
 
If you get a choice go with Ahweng. Bedside manner can be very important when under going colonoscopy. Positive attitude on your part will help too.

I second Dr. Barbara MacKalski at the Brandon Clinic. Have been to her several times; very compassionate and caring.

Dr. Mckalski is very nice! She's an awesome doctor who made the procedure a little bit better, she's super relaxed and easy going!

I also had Dr. Goossen for my colonoscopy.  
He and the nurse assisting were very good.

Have had lots done, including Goosen, carpenter and mackalski.  
 
 
The best was dr mackalski, shes gentle she is very detailed and understanding but your likely going to have to wait to see her, I waited 9months  
 
I would do your best to avoid the middle doctor i mentioned, very rough, im actually shocked that they are still practicing

Just google the dr your wondering about and all ratings and reviews will pop up. I love it!

Just had it done on tues. My 1st time and after much research is the only one I would trust.

not to highjack the thread & all opinions count but the "middle one" literally saved my life a year ago. Heaven help us with my emergency situation when he retires. He also did a colonoscopy on me a few years ago: no concerns. It depends how much "happy juice" you're given too.

thankyou all for taking the time to reply.... I have had Dr. Goosen for several pocedures and thought he was great, I just didnt realize he did this particular one, hopefully I can request him and not have to wait too long!

As a health care professional, I would recommend getting the colonoscopy with whichever surgeon can get you in the quickest. Colon Check is recommending further testing because there was hidden blood in your stool, which is the screening test for colon cancer. I would trust the 'arrogant doctor' with my life...good bedside manner or not he is an excellent surgeon!

he is the "arrogant doc" however he is the best at what he does. My life is way more important than any touchy feely feelings.

Warm hands, lots of lube and sedatives.

He may be a great surgeon,but I wouldnt trust him with my life....when the vibes I get from him speak to me of "run as many patients through as quickly as possible, explain nothing, answer any questions flippantly.....no thanks, I would like a Dr. I feel I can trust.....

She is Gastrointestinal Specialist only and she is such a dear women and makes sure you understand everything she spend an hour with u and no pressure!

She sounds super! I will look into getting an appt with her!

Dr Mackalski's specialty is Internal Medicine. Yes, she does see people with GI concerns, but she also sees people with other internal medicine concerns.

She is a gastroenterologist now as well. She is one of my specialists who has done numerous scopes on me. Terrific lady & even better Doctor! I have also had Dr. Goossen, Dr. Carpenter, Dr. Myers & " The Arrogant one" do many scopes as well. All were fine except the "AO". He bragged he was faster & better than all other Doctors.  
 
Having someone do a really fast scoping on either end, isn't good physically (very rough) or thorough. I prefer a Dr. to take their time to try to find out what the problem is. The same Dr. caused me to have other problems but I won't get into it here.

with scopes. Doesn't mean it was the doctor's fault entirely. This doctor everyone is referring to is an excellent doctor and surgeon, he can and would save your life for sure.  
As for Dr. Carpenter he saved my Dad's life while he was admitted to the hospital a couple of years ago so I know he is a excellent doctor too.

He is the best as far as I am concerned! The comments made on here, well that is their opinion. He is the best in his field for sure and very skilled indeed!! Cheers
