I don't go to the bank without my significant other, because I've been approached and followed to my car on more than one occasion. So now my SO and I go together when necessary and I've never been approached since my I don't need to go downtown usually for any other reason so I just avoid it usually. The guy at Dollarama is usually a nice fellow and doesn't ask, if I have some spare I give it to him. I've also had a man follow me to my car at superstore and ask me if he could put my cart away, kind of intimidating when someone waits for you to finish unloading your groceries, so I just said yes to avoid trouble. This was in broad daylight too. I understand some people are stuck between a rock and a hard place, but I usually will only give when not asked and I especially won't give money to you if you follow me to my car.
