Here I am showing my age again, but when I passed grade 1 through 11, I got a pat on the back and a job well done from my parents. If I hadn't passed, I would have got a kick in the ass!  
 
So what is up with children getting all these great expensive gifts for just passing grade school and junior high. I see kids getting i-pods, new bikes, etc.  
Do the parents bribe the kids and tell them if they pass, they will get this or that.....or do they just wait and see if they pass and then give them these great gifts.  
 
I would think you should just be happy to do your best and pass and not expect these big fancy gifts.  
 
I know "old school", I am. But what do other people think?
