I am noticing lots of stylist folks out there who are not wearing a bike helmet.  
 
I wonder if they underestimate the chances of serious injury or death due to skull fractures and/or concussions.  
 
There is a lot that can go wrong: it is sad to here of someone writing their obituary through not wearing a bike helmet.  
 
I had a wipeout yesterday on my bike, and "lightly tapped" my helmet on the pavement. I flew head first over my handles after hitting a hidden intake drain.  
 
So, lesson learned, I will never ever go without a helmet. Because I know that gentle taps to your helmet, equal very big taps to your brain.  
 
So, thankyou if you read this post and promptly wear a helmet. You'll do yourself a favor: EMS won't be picking your brains up off the pavement.

I got through some of the bicyclesafe link and frankly, there are some important points in there.  
 
Naturally, a head is protected in a helmet in ways that it isn't without. Helmets - to my understanding - are primarily for prevention of laceration and fracture injuries to the head. That's a great reason to wear a helmet.  
 
However, they do not prevent concussion injuries and you are still very much at risk of traumatic brain injuries while wearing one.  
 
I think the most important things to remember are:  
 
Children and unexperienced cyclists should ALWAYS wear a helmet.  
 
&  
 
Cyclists should always be mindful of what is going on around them and avoid potentially dangerous encounters.  
 
Just like most things, be safe out there.
