Your chance to help guide school ward system changes

As some may know, the Brandon School Division is looking at making changes to its ward boundaries (right now there are two wards, nine elected trustees). They've been looking for public feedback to help guide which direction they go in.
Per CKLQ (
http://www.cklq.com/index.php?cmd=TmV3cw==|TWFuaXRvYmE=&t=MTE4OTQ= ), only seven people from the public showed up for three recent meetings they've had on the topic.. including one for the last meeting. Based on that little of a showing, it's likely tough for the board to get an idea what the public wants when making their decision... so I was hoping we could do our best on here to share some thoughts that I'm sure will be read.
The school trustee system has long been criticized as one where many people go through the names on the ballot.. and then almost as an afterthought check the required amount of boxes. Depending on who you listen to, the end result could be a lot of trustees from the same part of the city, the candidates who managed to put up the most signs or even the candidates with the "coolest names."
Are you satisfied with the current system? If not, how could the wishes of people in the city be better represented? And what would make it easier for you as a voter to select trustees?
