Just wondering if anyone has recently been visited by a man collecting door-to-door for Unicef. I called Unicef Canada to check the validity but the office was closed.....I'll call again tomorrow but in the meantime thought I'd check with the ebrandon community

Send them away. My husband said he was approached by a UNICEF guy at our place and said that they wanted credit card donations on their device...sounds somewhat shady to me

I had Red Cross come by yesterday. Seemed nice enough....until I wouldn't agree to a monthly donation, then became too pushy for me  
 
I asked to do a one time donation and they apparently don't do that anymore he told me?? Seemed odd...

my experience was the same....he wanted credit card donations on his device and when i said no he was definitely more pushy than i expected. Just got an odd feeling from the whole interaction. I'll call UNICEF tomorrow to double check.

definitely sound fishy. You really don't hear of those organisations going door to door for donations. Other than an official donation drive. And you would hear about those in the media.

those donation drives typically take place in public locations like malls not door to door.

Thanks for the links Trevor. That form looks different than the one I was to fill in on his device (iPad i think??) There was no one time option and the monthly donation was $30 unless you selected "other". He said the minimum was 60 cents a day  
 
He said they were collecting now because of the BC fires and tbh, I didn't think much of it at the time. I'm glad he didn't take my one time donation because he would have had my credit card info!  
 
It all seemed so legit, had ID and everything. I don't know if he was scamming or not but I'm glad I didn't donate now

wouldn't be surprised that someone would take advantage of the BC Fires.

Hmm, the guy I had might be legit then. I don't want to falsely accuse someone of scamming if they're just doing their job!  
 
I don't remember any Red though. I think it was mainly black, a fanny pack thing and a teddy bear that he let the kids play with.  
 
Seems like they're trying to get monthly donators which is what he said.

UNICEF guy that came to our house this week was legit. We made a donation and received an email confirmation from unicef.ca immediately. Only option was monthly installments, but option to cancel by phone or online.
