We're in the process of researching a house in an area of the city that our lawyer has advised us to err on the side of caution with and verify there have been no methane claims/reports.  
 
Supposedly the apartment complex just across from where the Rollin Pin used to be actually has some kind of a system that's a part of the building that safely deals with removing methane from the ground.  
 
In our situation, we've gone through proper channels to request info... but I'm curious if anyone has dealt with/heard of other underground methane-related issues and what was done to address them (go light on the cow jokes please :)...
