The driver wanted her to stay on till they could reach downtown and they could have the supervisor come talk to her and take her to get medical lookover, she demanded she had plans with her friend sister or whoever she was, and she wanted off the driver insisted she stay on but she demanded to be let off so the driver let her off, he couldn't make her stay on forcefully, she got off with her whatever and took off she liked done no limping, and she was walking fast paced I think it's a seek for attention

In my opinion the driver was NOT at fault, he was in the bus lane doing the speedlimit, and a white Ford F-250 with Alberta plates merged into the bus lane outta nowhere with no signals, I was one of the people who also got flunged but I was standing. The driver did everything right, he stoped the bus and made sure everyone was good, he took her info and gave her the bus number his name his cell number his supervisors number and the bt head office number, I think he did amazing under the circumstances

How is it Brandon Tranisit''s fault that your girlfriend slipped on a patch of ice on a Manitoba Winter day, I mean common. I am sure the driver didn''t maliciously park the bus in front of the patch of ice to laugh at everyone who fell down? When do we start taking responsibility for our own actions. Its Manitoba, its icy, be careful. What do you want the city to apologize for?  
 
I dropped a weight on my foot at they gym, I had to take 3 days off of work for that. Maybe I should call the gym and have them apologize for my clumsiness and get a free membership or something, maybe it was due to my hands being sweaty and not enough available towels. No it was my own stupid fault for not paying attention to what I was doing.

needs to be free of snow and ice. Have you never seen city workers down there clearing snow? Of course they do, it is city responsibility to do so!  
 
Why do you think the city makes business owners clear their frontage of snow and ice in the winter? Come on!

Does anyone wonder if the lady was in shock after the incident and couldn't think straight? It does happen, especially in the elderly.

If she was in shock at the time then so be it but she was in the hospital for 7 days afterwards. Lots of time to make the call to the numbers the bus driver provided.  
 
This whole thread would be totally different if she had just contacted the city after the fact! That's all that needed to be done. Then if nothing is done then contact the Brandon Sun. We would all be "on her side" if that's what took place. But it isn't. There are witnesses on this discussion that show a different perspective but still shows the bus driver did exactly what needed to be done.

Not saying she is looking for money. She may, or may not be. But she is not taking responsibility for her own actions. According to her report of the incident, the driver was avoiding an accident. Good. She fell, and the driver checked on her. Good (the checking - not the falling). She said she was OK, and almost immediately left the bus (next stop). The driver gave her contact information in case she needed assistance. Good. What else was he supposed to do? Forcibly detain her? Could you imaging the headline then (BUS DRIVER KIDNAPS INJRED WOMAN - I know an over exaggeration). Did she feel fine (or at least think she did at the time, probably, but not really sure what else the driver could have done. Today's society is all about blaming someone for something. Fail a test - it's the teachers fault (even if you never studied). Get fired - your boss was a jerk (even you sucked at your job). She said she was fine, refused aide, and when she ended up she wasn't, she took it to the papers. Never once (according to the article) did she try contacting the number she was given. Sounds like the driver did what he could - and she refused aide, and the resources he provided her with.

Possibly, but if that's the case that's exactly what the driver overruling her would have done.

So, the transit driver was to overrule her - because he has legal authority to detain a person? He is either a doctor, who can rule the person is too injured to leave (not even sure if they can do that or not), and must stay, or a police officer and she is being arrested? I would have thought the article would have mentioned if the bus driver was one of those as well. Perhaps he should have held her down. Forcing her to stay would be illegal.

was reported as it should have been the city would have contacted the lady as opposed to putting the onus on her to do the contacting.  
 
I don't know the lady but.... sometimes the elderly are afraid of going to the hospital... there has been cases where once you get admitted when elderly it's hard to get discharged. Who knows what her state of mind was/is?

All public walkways must be kept clear of snow and ice, the city downtown dropoff at the terminal is no exception. This sidewalk should be kept clear so people getting on and off the bus not slip on the ice. Im sorry for your lack of knowledge but yes there is laws for this !! As for your being a dumbass and a klutz has nothing to do with the fact that the ice wasnt removed from a public sidewalk .... SORRY.

But you fail to mention what kind of footwear that your g/f was wearing @ the time of the slip, was it proper for the conditions, and can you possibly sit there and expect the city to get rid of all the snow and ice, on the walkways? SORRY

The onus is on the city not the person, a person does have to be responsible to some degree, but imagine what would happen if, say autopac decided not to cover accidents if you were not using a certain brand of tires. There are many companies out there that sell appropriate winter footware, and yet not all react the same on ice, unless you would like to see city government legislate proper winter footware.

There will come a time, in Mb much like Quebec has now where they won't insure you, unless you have winter tires, thus putting the onus on the driver/owner of the vehicle, I'm not saying that there is not accountability on the city, but in a MB winter, how many streets and sidewalks are rideable by bike, and/or walkable with stilletoes, but yet we see it all the time.

and if people are going to ride bikes, walk with stilettos, it is time to take accountability for yourself, instead of blaming everyone else.  
 
I've slipped, I've fallen, I slid into the back of someone at a 4-way stop and their trailer hitch went right through my bumper. I didn't get out and tell the people, they should not have a trailer hitch on their vehicle if they are not towing something. I took responsibility for not driving to the conditions.  
 
More people need to start doing that, instead of the blame game.

If someone falls at a business the very least people get is a phone call inquiring how things are going.

We have gotten a bit off topic. When it comes to the original OP I do have mixed opinions, I know from close calls with deer on the road that sometimes you do some evasive driving, the last time this happened I never asked if everyone was ok, really I never do, we are all still alive, the car is still on the road, and the adrenalin is pumping.  
The reason I mention adrenalin is I'm sort of an adrenalin junky, some folks like alcohol, some folks like tobacco, some folks like different drugs, me I like adrenalin.  
Funny things happen when you get an adrenalin rush, for myself a great rush involves the event going into slow motion, a heightened level of detail, a lack of pain, and as the effects wear off sometimes get the shakes.  
My brother got tackled by a cow last spring and as the cow stomped on him I heard a large pop or crack sound, first thought was the cow had stomped on his glasses and broke them, when he got up I asked, "you ok", of course he was ok, or so he said, next day he was at the doctors because of cracked ribs. That's why no comment, although I think the driver did what he was supposed to.  
As for Ried's comment that is completely different, it was a major loading and unloading area for busses, to say that it isn't important to clear this area is sort of akin to saying that the city should not salt and sand major routes and intersections.  
Final thought, I believe in doing as much as I can to prevent injury to myself, but I try and also do what I can to prevent injury to others, and for the times I can't attend to everything I carry third party liability.

It is hard for men to admit when they are hurt eh?  
 
I am also not saying the transit driver didn't do right by the lady but am hoping that the incident was reported to his supervisor. That being said, if the incident was reported properly why didn't the city approach the woman first? Then all of this 'news' wouldn't have to be reported in our local paper and discussed on this forum.

Well first off good job with the name calling I wouldn't expect any less.  
 
Secondly, I do understand the laws, it doesn't mean I agree with them. People like you are the reason that we have to put "caution hot" of coffee cups.  
Yes, its supposed to be cleared. I get that, I just wish people would stop blaming everyone else for stupid things like this. You slipped on a patch of ice in the winter time, get over it.

I think it's hilarious that buses are the only means of transportation that don't require seat belts. Cars do, planes do, cabs do... why not busses? Isn't it the law to always buckle your seat belt before moving... as a kid I always thought it was strange that there where never any seat belts on a bus for the exact reason that what if there's an accident and someone goes flying. Or in this case a hard break to avoid a collision. Brandon is full of horrible drivers that never pay attention or look before proceeding so it doesn't surprise me that the bus driver did what he/she did. But it still amazes me that buses arent mandatory to follow the cardinal rule about seat belts. If they at least provided them and this person chose not to wear it well then the only one responsible would be that sole individual not the bus driver or city transit cuz that person failed to buckle their seat belt. But in this case since seat belts are not provided on a bus than yeah she should get paid cuz she had no way to prevent the incident from occurring

Very easy to jump on the "find every fault with my post" bandwagon , when most missed my point entirely !! She emailed them (more than once) and got no answer, im saying that maybe the lady from the OP did report it and like my girlfriends incident, they didnt answer !! Answer to what she was wearing, great running shoes with good traction (she just got off work) .... some of you need to put yourself in someone elses shoes for once in your life and have a little remorse.

there is not one good shoe out there that has good traction on ice.
