I am wondering why more people don't want to volunteer for such a worthy cause as the Salvation Army Christmas kettle. They are only 2 hour shifts and all you have to do is be present at the kettle, smile, say thankyou to the donor, hand them a mint and write a receipt if they want one. They are in need of people to sit at the 3 locations (Walmart, Shoppers Mall or the new Sobeys). Call them (573-1726), it is rewarding and you get to see a lot of people you might not normally see through the holiday season.

Getting volunteers for anything is tough, most causes are "worthy causes". Hopefully they'll find enough people.

Agree. Finding volunteers is a tough gig. Positions like that are great for retired people that have free time on their hands. Many people work, family, extra evening activities, etc. People just don't have the time to invest into anything.

I agree with fishin guy! Would be perfect for seniors and retired folks. I know 2 hours doesn't seem like a long time to some, but to those that are already stretched to the limit with work, kids, extra curriculars, etc. 2 hours can be a lot of time. Would be rewarding, and hopefully they can find volunteers, but I know personally for us, we just don't have time during the hours the store is open.

I heard recently that the eia program gives clients that are receiving benefits in the disability category up to an extra $100 per month for volunteering. I wonder if the Salvation Army taps into this program? My understanding is that there is generally a shortage of volunteer positions for those wanting to take part in the eia program.

I don't know what the eia program is, but the Christmas kettle campaign is completely different. The money raised goes towards hampers and helping families in need around this season (definitely to fill hampers). There is a lot more to it, if we only knew what went on behind the scene. I know that almost all of your dollar that is donated to the Salvation Army goes to the cause (something like .94 cents out of $1.00). Anyway it is a worthy cause I believe.

You can volunteer by phoning Wanda @ 573-1726, she is the Coordinator. The shifts are 2 hrs at various locations. Hope you get a spot to volunteer.
