Wasps

Are yoi talking about wasp nests or just general wasps flying around and being a nuisance?
If you have a nest on your property, it's most effective to spray it and manually remove it. You need to make sure you are well-covered, including your face, with heavy fabric. They will string you through thin material. If the nest is in a hard-to-reach place like in a wall, you might need to hire someone. We had one under the floor of our shed, and it took about a week of going out every day and putting more poison out and in the hole.
If it's just wasps flying around generally, you should check to make sure there's no nests nearby. We found 3 on our property about a month ago. Once we eliminated them, the number of wasps dropped dramatically. Otherwise, the only thing you can do this time of year is make sure there's nothing to attract them (especially sugary drinks and foods) and be aware of them.
They are foraging in preparation for winter. It's frustrating if they interfere with your activities, but if there's no nests etc nearby, the best thing is just to not give them a reason to hang around. They said on the radio that they are especially aggressive this year and many animals are having serious reactions to stings. Our 3-year-old got swarmed and got 6 stings in less than a minute (that's how we found nest #3).
