Definitely on me for not being in the loop, but is anyone aware of where to find eclipse glasses locally? They seem to be sold out everywhere online.

I think I read that the observatory will be having a viewing party that day down in the field, and will be selling glass for viewing as well. My glass I bought from them a year or two ago with the last eclipse and saved it.  
 
Also, I heard Best Buy had them, but that was a couple of weeks ago now. I'm sure they're sold out by now, but it won't hurt to check.  
 
There are also lots of instructions online for building a viewer out of a box so you're not looking directly at the sun. If you don't find anything, that might be an option too.

Are welding helmets still ok to use? I remember using them as a kid when we had a total eclipse here, and I can still see today!

As long as the glass is #14 or better. That's the recommended darkness.  
 
Most welding glass seems to be in the #10-12 range?

Lol. I looked all over today and everyone said they are sold out.. what I could find tho was some welding goggles at princess auto that have #5 glass and praxair on Richmond east has #9 glass.. Easy to stick the glass to the glass in the goggles and voila #14. All the welder places are out of 14 and most combinations to make 14 or similar.. good luck!
