Is there anywhere to buy bulk seed potatoes? I only need 3-4 potatoes. Wanting to try them in a pot this year. See if I have any luck.  
Don't want to buy a whole bag from the stores.

Get together with a bunch of others who want just a few potatoes. That might work out well for you.

I mean bulk as in bins not in bags.  
And I don't know anyone else that plants potatoes.

Just use a potato from your kitchen see how that works...

I know Sadlers in Souris has them in a bin. Try Green Spot.

I'm not sure about 3 or 4 potatoes but Peavy Mart sells a nice 10lb bag of seed potatoes for $5 to $10 which is a great price.

Never used seed potatoes,, she would cut one of her potatoes in half and plant them cut side face down.

You can't do that anymore with just any old regular potato you buy as they're treated with chemicals to keep them from sprouting while in storage.  
 
The kids and I did a science experiment a few years ago trying to sprout a regular store-bought potato we would eat vs. one we got from the farm that was untreated. Only one grew. Guess which one?

But if they say organic on them they better sprout or there not organic anymore in my books. If you save peak of the market potatoes in the fall chances are they are not treated yet with the new crop coming off. I have also grown store potatoes from the little potato company. Problem with growing store bought potatoes is you might be growing something that is diseased up. Such as scab.  
For the op of the thread. I live in Brandon and I just picked up a bag of purple viking yesterday that I will spare a few out of if you want. Also seeing as your growing it in a pot I have TPS (True Potato Seed) that you can try your hand at. Downfall with TPS is you may or may not get enough potatoes for a meal from a potato plant.

I never knew that..I understand the concept of it but it was fun when we were kids helping mom plant her garden..

Have yet to see a potato that does not start sprouting after they have been in the bag for awhile....

I have frequently planted sell sprouted potatoes left over from my store bought cooking potatoes. Ordinary peak of the market russet and red potatoes both start sprouting very quickly in the bag

That’s how I planted my garden, had some store bought potatoes in a bag from last fall that sprouted and I cut them in half and made sure that each half had a sprout. Then I planted each one sprout side up. They are flourishing and I will be putting more dirt around them to hill them soon.

There are a couple of different chemicals used on potatoes after harvested that inhibit the "eye" development for a period of time. The chemical will wear down in time and the potato will develop the eye, and then sprout. The trick is don't plant it too quickly but wait until you see the sprout actually start. If done too soon the potato will just rot in the ground before the chemical breaks down.  
That is why it is important to thoroughly wash your potatoes if you are baking them, to make sure the chemical is washed off. Peeling them of course gets rid of the chemical that way.

Mom used to peel potatoes a little thick. Then plant a handful of peelings. I had a market gardener try to tell me it won’t work. Tried it and had success every time.  
 
When you buy potatoes eyes they just used a special machine to cut a ball with the eye intact.  
 
Yes potatoes which have been sprayed will generally resprout in time.

There is also the possibility when planting store bought into the ground that they may be genetically modified so who knows what kind of frank tater you will get

There is likely very little that we eat now that hasn't been genetically modified in the last 50 years
