I would like to know what these berries are. They smell sweet, familiar, and have many seeds.

My first guess was buffaloberry, but that isn't it.

a picture of the shrub it cam off of to get a better idea. So far it looks like a Goji berry

Picture 5 is of the berry bush. It is on a property that has not been lived on for many years. I suspect then that the shrub is quite old, although birds can carry things a long way sometimes.

A type of bush honeysuckle maybe?

Not a Nanking, as that only has one seed.

The honeysuckle looks like it might be a possibility. If that is the case, it sounds like it is only for rabbits & birds.

I will have a chance to compare a known honeysuckle with a sample of this one on the weekend. Hopefully this is what it is!

I was told that those would be edible, just not very pleasant.

Bell's Honeysuckle

I'm late to the Honeysuckle party, but another for consideration... found reference to a variety called Bell's Honeysuckle and specific reference to it being established in SW Manitoba at http://eol.org/data_objects/24264745 (towards the end of the link)

Sounds like it's closely related to Tatarica mentioned above. More on it at:

As a honeysuckle, ot is not supposed to taste unpleasant, but was told that a small lick of this berry was sweet.
