it doesnt take that long and people can walk, try being that driver, you'd park as close to the door as you could lol

Unless people have worked in the industry, I don''t think they realize how much stuff comes in a delivery. And it happens *at least* twice a week, sometimes more. They generally don''t do deliveries during peak hours (i.e. from 11 until 2), but the rest of the day is generally game, preferably in the morning.

My question now is - when this place is open 24 hours, why are they taking huge freight deliveries at 8:45am, which I'm sure is one of their busiest times of the day? All it does is frustrate their customers and staff, and create an environment where accidents are way more likely to happen?  
 
McDonalds is a huge company. They have their logistics pretty nailed down I would think. You'd think this kind of thing would have been taken into consideration when they built the place, which was only a couple of years ago.

Trucks are like trains. They all run on a schedule. The ones McDonalds gets probably carry more than one delivery on it.

honestly i assumed and took your first post as you were slightly annoyed but just didnt know why and once you did you would realize that its a small inconvenience but now with your update you sound entitled.  
 
Mcdonalds does have their logistics nailed down and they have decided that their name stands on its own enough and their prices cheap enough (i assume again lol)and that this works best for their workers and distribution despite the few people who might be annoyed because OTHERS dont know how to drive or rather not walk. as well Dont forget that there are many factors that come into play be it the time in gets in to other warehouses, when it can leave, the size of the store drivers hours the list goes on, I do know I see every Mcdonalds in every country ive been in set up for deliveries with crates so no matter what you think f it i doubt it will change

The reason for being blocked off IS for deliveries and they do that now instead of trying to get 10-25 customer vehicles moved when the semi shows up.  
 
You cant park a 65' truck/trailer on a major artery multiple times a week as it would cause traffic delays and likely accidents.  
 
Each store doesn't choose its delivery day and time, the company Martin Brower likely sets it based on driver schedules and availability. Different locations have different times and days this happens.  
 
Its one or two days a week, there are bigger things to be concerning your selves with. If you dont like it, I'd suggest going to a different location or different business for coffee those days if its that big of an issue for you.

I didn't realize so many people on eBrandon were experts on parking and shipping logistics and who McDonalds uses for shipping. I have never worked there so I don't have all the secret inside information like many here seem to. lol  
 
And if not wanting to see an old lady get run over in a parking lot makes me "entitled", then I guess that's what I am. If wondering why an international restaurant franchise with hundreds of thousands of locations couldn't figure out how to arrange shipping and receiving without milk crates in parking spaces and turning their lot into a nightmare, I guess that also makes me entitled. Somehow. I guess.?  
 
There are restaurants all over town, including other McDonald's restaurants, that receive large shipments/deliveries. None of them, as far as I can tell, block off the bulk of their customer parking with milk crates to receive stock. Am I wrong?  
 
And while yes, "Suckie", there are much bigger things to be concerned about than old lady safety at McDonalds. I apologize for not seeing the bigger picture as per your world view. I actually don't recall saying it was a big issue at all, but you seem to have put those words in my mouth.

you came off sounding entitled because even tho you admit you are no expert in logistics still you believe it should be done differently, just because some old lady, driver or both forgot to look where they were going, its a parking lot, obviously the lots could be full and then the lady would have had to chance crossing the lot anyway, at 845 most of the time only the drive through is busy therefore its a fine time to black a few parking spots so that the semi has enough room to unload  
 
ps i have witnessed several restaurants receiving deliveries in the customer parking, some with semis but most dont serve the volume Mcds does therefor do not need as many or as big of deliveries, now you know pay attention and you will see lots more of the worldly activities

For simply wondering why a busy restaurant would deep-six most of their parking spaces during the busiest hour of the morning. Silly old entitled me. Is this kind of discussion not what this site is for?  
 
I'm pretty sure 8:45 is also a very busy time for the restaurant, because there are huge groups of seniors that meet there in the mornings for coffee. And I'm not talking about a "few" parking spots. I'm talking about almost all of them.  
 
If anyone thinks I'm angry, they're mistaken. I asked a simple question, was a little annoyed perhaps, but I don't get angry over anything on eBrandon. Or in the McD's parking lot. I literally could not figure out why they were doing this so I asked. And now I know, so all you logistics and food service delivery experts can puff out your chest and cross your arms knowing you just put some random stranger on the internet in their place.  
 
But y'know what? I still think they probably should have taken it into consideration when they built the place, rather than inconveniencing and endangering their customers and staff. Yell at me all you want, but that's my opinion.

agree that quite possibly for some complaints that it certainly is the way to go.  
 
I am only suggesting that logistically, considering the time of the day, the location, the size of the truck and what is exactly being received that they may not be able to change their schedule because a few Brandonites are pissed off about the tractor and trailer taking up spots that are cordoned off by milk crates.  
 
Otherwise, yes I would agree for more minor issues that this is the way to be heard.

The McDonalds on Richmond Ave. has been there since the late 70s.

McDonalds has been there that long, yes. However, the entire building was knocked down and rebuilt maybe less than 10 years ago.

They block off nowhere near 90% of the spots!!  
 
They block of the spots on the east side to allow the truck to turn around, then once it's in and turned, they open those spots. All other McDonalds block off stalls infront of the restaurant for unloading and loading the truck. The other 2 locations have the space where they don't need to get the truck turned. The Victoria location is where they can have the semi pull into the lot south of the then back into the blocked off spots in front. The Trans-Canada location has the space for the truck to pull right into the blocked off spots. This is not a new proceedure!!!!  
 
BTW, has anyone asked the manager of that location why they need to block off the spots?

I've been there when they were expecting the delivery, there's been plenty of spots available along the back fence, and on the west side.

So you came on here to complain about McDonald's but what did they tell you when you called them? Why would you expect everyone on here to know rather than the people with the milk crates? I have a notion that if you went in to talk to them about it that they may give you a coupon for a free coffee at Burger King.

any of the other regular coffee goers upset about this or just you? I'm pretty certain those who go there everyday know and fully understand why those few spots are blocked.

And yeah, I'm pretty sure the guy who's brand-new SUV was nearly sideswiped was annoyed. As well as the lady who drove her car over a milk crate and parked in the space anyway, nearly hitting another car. The old lady screaming at the young guy in the jacked up truck seemed a little upset after he almost ran her and her husband over. So the answer is yes, I believe there were other people annoyed or angered by the traffic jam that was happening.  
 
I posted here because I genuinely was wondering why they use a system like this. It seems to me you're missing the point. I also posted here because Brandone businesses often look on eBrandon to see what's being said about their establishments. Perhaps I hoped someone from McD's would clarify or just take note.  
 
Once again, I have seen a thousand people use eBrandon as a sounding board for minor annoyances or looking for an explanation. If you guys wanna dogpile on like a bunch of butthurt internet heroes, go right ahead. It was a simple question that was answered hours ago. Get over it.

It's also not McDonalds fault someone can't drive and drove over a milk crate to parking in a spot it was blocking.

People he just asked a question! I don't think he sounded entitled at all, just curious about what the heck the milk crates were doing. I had no idea what the milk crates were for either so I would have asked the same question. Holy moly sorry people jumped down your neck Ken!

was answered exactly as to why. He was the one that got snarky when he didn't like the answers given.

I marked out roughly the parking stalls that get blocked for the semi to come in. The line directly at the building is where it parks to unload. Once the semi is parked, the stalls on the east side are opened up.
