Just curious-2012?

We were sitting around this past weekend and began a conversation with friends about the movie 2012 coming out and of course the "real" Mayan predictions. So I am curious as to what exactly is causing such panic. I personally do not believe the world will end (but if it does, will I feel silly saying this..lol) I feel it is much like the 2000 panic that people had, and that all will be okay. What are your thoughts? Predictions? Comments? Fears?
