Wont name names, but when I bought my GMC 3500 last spring, I looked at Brandon, then to Virden, and I got more then 3X trade value on my trade in ($23,000 in Virden compared to $7000 in Brandon). A simple trip to another dealership can save you alot sometimes. " |

Wow, that is a lot! Therefore your NET difference probably was less? I've seen that happen, one dealer will give more for your trade, but the net difference is actually more because they inflate the new price. As mentioned above, be mindful what you buy if used for towing. Be sure to get the specs of the unit your considering because axle ratio and engine size will impact how many pounds can be towed. Also if payload capacity is a concern (5th wheel trailer), then type of truck (regular cab versus crew cab) and options (2wd versus 4wd for eg) will impact payload capacity. Also as mentioned above, take the units out for a drive as long as possible. One may not "feel" comfortable to you. Shop around to compare prices. I just bought a new Ram and there wasn't much difference on price between dealers as it was a no trade purchase. Good luck, do some research, do some test drives and have fun! Btw, Nissan now has a Cummins diesel if your looking for some diesel options. " |

You raise a very good point here. Just because one dealership will offer you more money, make absolute sure that you are comparing all aspects of the deal - starting price, dealer discounts and your trade in. A crafty salesman can make it look like your are getting lots for a trade in, but they might have less discounts on that vehicle, therefore costing you more money in the end. Yes, with mine, I made sure all the numbers were the same, which was fairly easy when it was an order straight from the factory. Base price was set in stone, and the discounts were different at both places but ended up pennies apart. The deal I got in Virden saves me about $330 a month.....HUGE savings. " |

I think without a lot more info including make/model/year of the vehicle being traded in there are going to be a lot of people that will seriously doubt your claim. I respect your privacy and don't want you to disclose anything you aren't comfortable disclosing since it could be used to obtain a lot of info but I'd have a hard time taking the claim at face value myself without a VIN and perhaps even Carproof report. Simply does not add up for there to be that significant of a spread and so my natural instinct is to want to understand further without sending this thread too off course from its original intent (comparing the vehicles named). In everything it's worth keeping in mind that as per the link below (2014 but shouldn't have changed that meaningfully), by the time all dust settles the average vehicle sale nets a dealer $1000-2500. For every $1,000,000 in revenue profits were $22,500 http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-drive/news/cato-car-dealers-profit--but-not-as-much-as-youd-think/article16188656/?service=mobile " |

I got no problem sharing my info, as Im not scared to tell people what I paid for my truck. Its common knowledge to find out what new ones are, a dealership will gladly tell you if your looking for one.
Here's what my deal was: trade in of a 2007 GMC 3500 SLT fully loaded. 220XXX km, mechanically great shape, cosmetically very good, needed rear tires and a new windshield (dealership in Brandon even commented about the good shape, and that it only needed tires and a windshield. Moving on) New vehicle purchased - 2015 GMC SLT fully loaded. MSRP $82000. Subtract dealer discounts was about the $10000 range. I should note here that this vehicle was ordered from factory so all prices were known at the time of pricing. So, list price for me before trade in was about $72000. Trade value offered at Brandon - $7000, trade value offered in Virden - $23000. I was even nice enough to tell the salesman in Brandon to phone me back with his best price, not an offer. He never returned the phone call. So, obviously, I went to where I got the best deal. Happened to be in Virden.
That's my story of my last vehicle, I guess people can take it as they see it, or not believe it. I dont have any paperwork from the offer I got in Brandon, because there was no need to keep records of it, but I do have record of the sale from Virden.
I have no idea why the spread on the two locations, all I know is that it pays to search for your best deal. Might be here, might be there, and what worked for me might not work for the next guy. You'll only know if you go ask.
(Sorry for the derailment here, just wanted to give you the info you were looking for)
