Had no issues with minor add-on mods...

Had an accident that damaged one of my aftermarket "altezza" tail lights. Got both replaced with the same ones that were already on. The body shop says it''''s not usually an issue for taillights as long they''''re safety approved, off the shelf/easy to install, cost being similar to factory original and are available in Canada. Headlights are pretty much the same. However, they did say MPI are picky about certain brands of headlights and will deny replacing any lights that are "opened up" and modified. (Projectors, Halo rings, LED strips, etc...). High output bulbs with ballasts can be denied as well. Body, interior, and engine mods... I don''''t know what would be covered. Wheels, tires and suspension is a case by case. Electronics have a cap (not sure what it is). I know that many don''''t get fully compensated when speakers and amps go missing. And finally, window tints may not get covered if MPI deems them as too dark or not within "their" specifications.
All I can say when planning to spend thousands on a car that was originally purchased in the hundreds is... Keep record/documentation of all receipts and get an appraisal when the work is done if you think the car is over the ''''blue book'''' value. A great example would be an older car (like a 20 year coupe) gets bought for $4500. Then a $1000 of mail order items gets added, another $2500 for rims and tires and topped off in the following year with a wicked $5000 paint and bodywork job. Autopac is not going to ''''roll over'''' and pay out thirteen grand on a written off vehicle that has a ''''book value'''' of between $3500 and $5000. Very few people get all their money back from a car and next to none will get it from an insurance company like MPI without having an appraisal, receipts, and determination to fight tooth and nail for what you think it''''s worth. Rims, mail order stuff and the crap bought from Walmart and Canadian Tire are things you''''ll never fully recoup. Enjoy it, but don''''t expect to see all your money to come back when you''''re done.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
