Casual/Part Time Prep Cook
The Prep Cook prepares the food for each meal as outlined on the menu, utilizing the standardized recipes, exercising due regard for sanitation and quality, and ensuring the meal presented to each resident has a palatable taste and appetizing appearance. The
Prep cook understands, respects, and promotes the Resident Rights and Responsibilities.
Functions:
? Assists in preparation of high quality, tasty meals according to the posted menu and following the standardized recipes with attention to portion control.
? Assists with the service of food (plating food at meal time), ensuring resident food preferences are respected.
? Ensures that all dietary functions are performed in a clean, sanitary manner according to regulations.
? Assists in control of food costs and wastage.
? Perform prep, cleaning, and all other duties as requested and as per task list created by Head Chef
? Is aware and endeavors to respect and promote the Residents Rights and Responsibilities
? Participates in continuous quality improvement
? Co-operates with other employees and participates as a member of the health & safety committee as required.
? Performs other duties and functions as required.
Qualifications:
2. Must have experience in quantity food preparation and the preparation of therapeutic diets.
3. Must be familiar with the use of kitchen equipment.
4. Must have empathy for, and an understanding of the needs of the elderly.
5. Must have the ability to speak, read and write English, and to follow oral and written directions, and do arithmetic calculations.
6. Good physical and mental health.
Competency Criteria
? Is qualified because of knowledge, training and experience to organize the work and its performance.
? Is familiar with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations that apply to the work, and
? Has knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the workplace.
Reports To:
The Prep Cook reports directly to the Head Chef
Working Conditions:
Must be able to concentrate in an environment that provides constant interruption and change.
Lifting alone, maximum 40 lbs. (5-25 lbs. usual) as a non-essential job function.
Lifting with assistance, maximum 160 lbs. (100-125 usual) as an essential job function.
Pushing/pulling, maximum 100 lbs. (20-50 lbs. usual) as an essential job function.
