The Plumber position within Public Service Delivery supports the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of provincially owned facilities, including the Brandon Correctional Centre and other district buildings. Reporting to the Facility Manager 4, this role operates within a highly regulated and security sensitive environment, where adherence to provincial codes, safety standards, and operational policies is essential. The position requires a qualified journeyperson who demonstrates technical expertise, sound judgment, and professionalism while working independently or collaboratively to maintain critical building infrastructure. The role plays an important part in ensuring facility functionality, occupant safety, and continuity of services across the district.

 

Duties:

Under the direction of the Facility Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for the proper maintenance, repair or replace all plumbing fixtures, lap basins, water closets and hot water tanks in the highly visible Brandon Correctional Centre and other district buildings, in accordance to the Manitoba Plumbing Code and the Manitoba Gas Code.

Qualifications:

Essential:

Extensive experience in the building operation and maintenance environment.

Experience working with plumbing related legislated codes and regulations.

Knowledge of safe work practices, procedures and relevant safety policies and legislation.

Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with contractors, clients, and the general public

Strong written communication skills

Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills

Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to work independently

Desired:

Backflow Preventer Certificate, and asbestos awareness training.

Conditions of Employment:

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

Red Seal Journeyperson Plumbing license with Class ?B? gas ticket

Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, Vulnerable Persons Check and Security Check

Valid Class 5 driver's license with the ability to travel within the Province when required.

Must be able to complete an enhanced Security Screening

Must be physically capable of performing the required activities of the position, including working alone, under extreme temperatures or heights, in confined spaces, in a secure facility, and wearing personal protective equipment

Must have the ability to be on rotating on-call for after hours emergencies including statutory holidays and weekends
