Very encouraging news from a story in the Columbus Dispatch newspaper today on Wheat Kings first import pick Maxim Mayorov. Not only is he getting very positive reviews from the Blue Jacket's first look at him, but according to the article all signs are pointing towards him crosing the Atlantic to play in North America next season. With the Wheat Kings holding his rights, that would mean either here or as an underaged minor leaguer in the AHL:
-----from the story---:
On July 1, Mayorov issued the required 30-day notice, per Russian law, to break his obligation with his Russian club, Kazan Ak-Bars. He'll be free to negotiate a contract with the Blue Jackets as of Aug. 1, agent Sasha Tychny said, and all signs point to him spending the 2008-09 season playing in North America.
"That was his indication to me when I met with him in Russia," Howson said. "That he wants to play over here (in 2008-09)."
