A long-time piece of Brandon’s past is no-more as a demolition crew now cleans up the final rubble that was once the International Harvester Building.
Scheduled for removal to make way for a badly needed overpass upgrade over the CP Rail tracks at 18th Street, the 110-year landmark officially met its demise beginning in mid-April
Thanks to a camera trained on the work site from the location of Sutton Harrison Realty, one photo was taken of progress every two minutes starting on an unusually snowy April 12 and running for just over two weeks. The resulting 6000 pictures make for a fun approx five minute time-lapse showing the progression from five storey building to land preparing for the most significant infrastructure project in the city in many years:
The nearby portion of Pacific Avenue had been closed to traffic to allow the demolition to take place. Traffic on the adjacent Daly Overpass bridge was reduced to two lanes and closed to pedestrian traffic during working hours. All have since been re-opened as final site cleanup work takes place.
Construction on the first of two new bridge spans is expected to begin in the weeks ahead. Completion of the project as a whole is targeted for October 2023.
A big thank you to the good folks at Sutton Harrison for allowing the camera to be setup at their ideally situated property for the few week period.
