A mixed bag of oddball Wheat King stats
2/2/2009 at 3:26 PM
Just a few different numbers I dug up with the internal stat program I keep for Wheat King stats. The odd goal or assist may be ever so slightly out in situations where there has been a day-after change in the game summary.
- Andrew Clark and Brayden Schenn each have just 25 points in road games... compared to 36 each in home games.
- Clark has scored 7 goals in games against Kootenay ... the rest of the team combined: 9. Schenn has scored 4 goals against Calgary.. the rest of the team: 5.
- The Wheat Kings have only lost once all season when leading after 2 periods (22-1-0-0). On the flip side, out of 13 games they've trailed heading into the third they've only ended up losing 5 of them in regulation (6-5-2-0)!
- Probably didn't need another stat to prove this, but this team is clutch. Have scored on 15.8% of shots in the 3rd period and OT, compared with 11% in the 1st and 9.6% in the 2nd. Because of that, 43% of all goals this year have come in the 3rd or OT.
- Have to start calling Andrew Clark Mr. Saturday night. On Saturdays he has 12 goals, 13 assists for 25 points in 17 games. Every other night he is at or within only a point-per-game.
- In the same regard, we can call James Priestner Mr. Anything-But-Saturday-Night. Take out his eight Saturday starts and his remaining average of 2.61 would have him just behind Saskatoon's Braden Holtby (2.55) for second best in the division (Priestner is 4.01 on Saturdays).
- Also on Priestner, oddly enough his save percentage is just 0.866 in home games and 0.903 on the road!
- Staying with goalies, Andrew Hayes is a jaw-dropping 2.22 over 7 Friday starts.
- Hayes has stopped a whopping 12 of 14 shootout shots against him.. 12 of those shots have been on the road.
- Defenceman Darren Bestland, Chad Erb and Jordan Hale have each been involved in eight fights this year to tie for the most on the team. Matt Lowry and Cale Jefferies have been in seven.
- When Sanfred King has been in the lineup, the team is 23-8-3-1 (.714 winning pct). When he hasn't played, they are 11-7-0-0 (0.611 pct)!
Some time over the next couple of weeks I'll profile opposing teams' stats against the Wheat Kings. Which players have given trouble. Which goalies we've had the easiest go with. etc etc.
