Game day thread: Lethbridge @ Brandon, 7 PM
2/25/2009 at 9:53 AM
Lethbridge Hurricanes: 7th in Eastern Conference, 30-27-3-2
Top Scorers: Colton Sceviour (25+44=69), Kyle Beach (22+31=53, suspended by WHL), Dwight King (20+31=51), Carter Ashton (28+16=44)
Top Defenceman: Mitch Versteeg (7+20=27), Zach Boychuk (19+23=42)
Probable starting goalie: Hurricanes regular starting goalie Metsola has been injured. I don't know his status, but based on that will pick rookie Michael Tadjdeh to get the nod (10-8-0, .881, 3.28).
Manitobans: Eric Mestery (Winnipeg)
Brandon Wheat Kings, 3rd in Eastern Conference, 42-16-3-1
Top Scorers: Brayden Schenn (28+50=78), Jay Fehr (27+47=74), Andrew Clark (36+35=71), Matt Lowry (13+57=70)
Top Defenceman: Colby Robak (12+27=39)
Probable Starting Goalie: Anyone's guess. For fun I'll guess Hayes, with an eye on this weekend's series and the fact that Saskatoon has had his number this year (0.849 save pct in four games).
First place watch: Wheat Kings trail Saskatoon by four points with a game in hand. The Blades are at home against Moose Jaw tonight in a game they are heavily expected to win.
The Wheat Kings and Hurricanes hook up tonight in a potential first round playoff preview.
This *would* have been the first time the Kyle Beach show has come to Brandon since Lethbridge acquired him at the trade deadline... but unfortunately Chicago's first round draft pick is suspended by the WHL and will not play.
The game will be a must win of sorts for the Wheat Kings if they hope to be in striking position of first place for this weekend's series with Saskatoon.
Also of note, I'm going to be experimenting with a new feature tonight which I'll call "Spotlight on....."
The idea is that we'll pick a specific player and film his shifts, posting a collection of highlights from that player's game an hour or so after the game is finished. If anyone has any suggestions for our first Spotlight, please share!
I'll post scratches and lineups approx a half hour before game time.
