Westman Wolverines PeeWee football
10/10/2009 at 6:14 PM
We just got home from Winnipeg and I wanted to let Brandon know that the Westman Wolverines PeeWee (11 and 12 year olds) football team played an incredible game in the first day of playoffs in the MB Minor Football Association.
After finishing 7 and 1 in the regular season the Wolverines drew the Crescentwood Grizzlies in the first game in what proved to be a winter style football game.
While we only saw a skiff of snow in Westman the field in Winnipeg had to have the lines blown clear to be able to see the markers on the field.
A tremendous team effort, in bitter cold and wet conditions, was put forward by the Wolverines as they triumphed over the Grizzlies by a score of 32-6.
For the past 9 weeks a group of dedicated players, coaches and parents have been making the trip into Winnipeg to play in a league dominated by Winnipeg clubs.
The team holds practise Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 at Neelin High School.
In addition to the Peewee team a solid Minor Bantam team played a respectable season finishing just out of the playoffs.
I just want to give a big shout out to an incredible team of players, coaches and parents who have made this season possible.
I will keep everyone posted as to the next weekend's schedule in case anyone is interested in heading in to Winnipeg to root for the Wolverines.
