WHL announces award finalists
3/17/2010 at 1:40 PM
The WHL has announced both the first and second team Eastern Conference all-stars as well as the East's finalists for league awards.
The Wheat Kings are quite prominent on the all-star teams, and two members of the front office were nominated for awards... but unfortunately no players got the nod. A little surprised to see Colby Robak not nominated for most sportsmanlike player considering how effective of a defenceman he was and the fact that he only had 9 PIMs. The nominee, Jason Bast, only had 16 PIMs himself however.
The East nominee for MVP won't be announced until April. Based on his stats and rep, Eberle might be seen as the favourite.. but it's worth noting that no player on a non-playoff team has won the MVP award in the 30+ years that the WHL has been called "The Western Hockey League" and only twice since 1967
