Bobcats Sweep Bisons. Barely
1/28/2007 at 11:01 PM
During the past weekend the Brandon Bobcats had a successful but also scary weekend. They beat the Manitoba Bisons twice by a combined score of four points. The Bisons shot the ball extremely well and were lead by Iaasic Ansah, Darcy Coss and Christopher Periera who got a combined 71 out of the teams 85 points on Saturday.
Being the No. 2 team in the country it can be expected that the Bobcats would beat a team like Manitoba who only have six wins on the season all of them coming against teams with a record below .500. On the other hand the Bisons are coming into the BU gym fired up and trying to make a statement that they are better than their record of 6-12.
As for Brandon this could have been a weekend where they showed they are a dominant force in Canada West and that their ranking is deserved. Both Friday and Saturday they were up 12 to 14 points with 7 or 8 minutes left and I think that everyone would enjoy seeing them win by more than one basket at home. If they expect to go on and compete in the Final Four, and down in Halifax they should be able to hold on and close games a lot stronger than we saw this weekend.
Regardless of that weakness the Bobcats once again showed that they are at the top of Canada West as well as all of CIS. Those who thought championship basketball was over at the BU Gym should now be convinced that this team is as exciting as any team in the past and we can look forward to seeing great basketball in the future.
Next weekend long time rivals Regina Cougars are in town, fighting for a playoff spot. Once again Brandon will be the target for a team looking to prove something. Expect the Hi Flying action to continue.
