Game day thread: Spokane Chiefs @ Wheat Kings, 7:30 PM
11/5/2010 at 12:15 PM
Spokane Chiefs (7-8-0, 9th in Eastern Conference)
Top scorers: Tyler Johnson (6 goals, 14 assists, 20 points), Levko Koper (8+8=16), Brenden Kichton (3+9=12), Blake Gal (8+1=9)
Top scoring defenceman: Kichton (3+9=12)
Probable starting goaltender: James Reid (7-6-0, 2.94 goals against average, 0.893 save percentage) is the Chiefs' undisputed starter. With Spokane playing back-to-back games this weekend, there's always the chance that they'll split starts between their two goalies but I'll go with the obvious choice in Reid
Manitobans: Reid Gow (Killarney)
Brandon Wheat Kings (6-10-0-1, 9th in Eastern Conference)
Top scorers: Mark Stone (10 goals, 12 assists, 22 points), Scott Glennie (2+12=14), Brenden Walker (7+4=11), Brodie Melnychuk (3+8=11)
Top scoring defenceman: Melnychuk (3+8=11)
Probable starting goaltender: The Wheat King goaltending picture is quite different from the last time we saw them in Brandon when three rookies were rotating starts evenly. Liam Liston (4-4-0, 3.10 goals against average, 0.899 save percentage) is now the starter and I'll guess he plays tonight.
In case you forgot, Brandon has a Western Hockey League team
The Wheat Kings play their first game in Brandon in three weeks when the Spokane Chiefs pay a rare visit to Westman Place.
The Wheat Kings are getting a little closer to being healthy after injuries contributed to their coming down to earth after a 4-0 start to the season. Previously injured players Michael Ferland and Jordan Fransoo played on the recent road trip. Per Luber's Lounge, David Toews sounds like a decent bet to play as well after practising with the team on Thursday according to Lubers Lounge. Previously injured Shayne Wiebe and Jens Meilleur also practiced on Thursday, while Ryley Miller's status is unknown.
I'll post lineups 30-45 mins before game time. It would be interesting to hear other peoples' thoughts on tonight's matchup and on finally having our Wheaties back in town!
