I am the head coach of the crocus jv program and was contacted in regards to these posts! everyone has some great points, even you pissed off mama, but your approach is seriously detrimental to youth sports in high school...not just football but sports in general.you say you have no affil. with any school. did your kids play ANY sports? if so, you need to APPRECIATE, and not bash any VOLUNTEERS efforts in regards to making ANY kid a better person through involvement in sports!I have been involved in the youth league for coming on 6 years now, both on the field and behind the scenes and i agree with Katwoman, if you want to make a difference, shut the hell up and give us a hand moulding kids( alot that are influenced by gangs, alcoholic families, foster homes, group homes, etc.)into a functional member of adulthood and not a jail statistic. I respect ALL coaches and VOLUNTEERS, in ANY sport, at ANY level for making a difference to a kid who may be told he is too fat, stupid, slow, etc. to be anything in life. I have never seen a sport that accomodates ANY type or style of kid that wants to try it, there are spots on the field for any make model or otherwise of kid. Feel free to slam MY jv team about our winless season, im a big boy and your critisims roll of my back like water to a duck. Myself, and the rest of my colleagues from all schools in all sports know why we do what we do and for you to question it upsets me a bit, but whatever. Opinions are like A-holes maam,we all have 1 and nobodys is any more important than anyone elses in my opinion( see i have one too). I dont like how you drag all 3 schools into your mess b/c your kids had to go somewhere, unless you dont live in Btown. If there were not coaches like US out there to keep kids off the streets, these same kids would be the ones breaking into homes and doing god knows what else kids have to do nowadays, so please keep some of your opinions to your self. Dont get me wrong here, when we take the field to compete in the fall, we PLAY TO WIN, NOT LOSE. High school sports is VERY different from youth league, and its senseless for us as coaches to all spend COUNTLESS hours prepping and practicing with our athletes to set out to lose. I know there is some smack talk between kids at all 3 schools,( i know sooo many of these kids personally, i get trashed on all the time...lol...but its all good, kids show school pride and its awsome to see them care about anything nowadays other than call of duty) and have had the blessed opportunity to help ALOT of these young athletes get prepared for the next level and beyond, i am PROUD to be part of the situation because po'd, we are changing young lives, and thats whats really important. some of what you say has merit lady, but how you convey it is shit!different coaches coach for their own reasons, but we still coach!! I PRIDE myself in being a "second chance" coach. i want the kids who are or potentially have been written off by society/teachers/parents, etc. I strive to show that kid that they are NOT losers as they may have been told in the past. The majority of my team in WYFA last year were kids like this and myself and my asst. coaches gave them the self worth to smash thru that crap and gave them a chance to CARE about something, and it meant the WORLD to alot of my kids that someone gave a crap enough to not write them off so quickly, and THAT is something the league has ALWAYS prided itself on, and i am just happy to have the opportunity to help. We went to the FINALS last year, and lost but to my players it didnt matter, they were soooo thrilled to get there and alot of them had NEVER been in the position to EVER have a championship of any kind, and that lack of experience did cost us the game, but who cares? they got there and froze up, but to me, getting them there was my greatest accomplishment as a youth coach. im not tooting my own horn here, im tooting EVERY coach and volunteers horn for anything they have ever done for the betterment of youth development through sports. I really dont want to add to this mess, and i am stating here and now, i have NO SIDE in this discussion, i just want to say my piece and bail.Keep this in mind PO'd, what if we all quit coaching? Then the hundreds of kids we get off the streets would be cruising around your street looking for something to do, and i bet it wouldnt be legal for the most part maam. My hats off to ALL who help in ANY way with ANY sport at ANY level. WE are the unsung heroes and wish to stay that way. On a persoanl note PO'D: come see the pride in the kids eyes when they succeed where so many have labeled them failures and maybe that will change how you see things. Thats what did it for me and i am hooked to coach for as long as i can! Coaching football has changed mine and my families life and i am sooo happy to know that i am NOT the only family this has done it to! have a great day all! FOOTBALL FOR LIFE!!
