Hey! So, my son has decided not to go with hockey this year. I am not overly sad (extra $900.00 in my pocket)but we would like him to do something. We were thinking snow boarding but that is an expensive sport. To buy the gear and then he decides it is not for him. Any suggestions on other things to do during the winter season???

What about karate or tai Kwon doe? There's also usually indoor soccer, gymnastics, swimming, or even rec skating

There is Judo too. It is inexpensive and an individual sport that you can continue (if you wish) almost anywhere in the world for the rest of your life. It is also an Olympic sport.

Community centres

If he likes to skate and play hockey, try your nearest community centre! Not organized hockey, but lots of fun for the kids to skate and play hockey.

well in my thoughts would be let your child make that choice what he / she wants to do . an then they will pick whats right for them an enjoy it .

You can always rent equipment to see if he likes it. Just buy a helmet and goggles to start with. Any ski hill rents skis, poles, snowboards, and boots.

I never said he could not make that choice. Thank you very much!! He asked me what else he could do and the only thing I could think is soccer or snow boarding so I thought let's ask around. I thank everyone else for the great ideas. I will mention everything to him and see if he shows interest in anything. I hope everyone has a great long weekend even if it rains all weekend.

He can try the Badminton club. It's about $150 for the season. Twice a week at the Healthy Living Centre. Season starts on Sept 15.

Roller Derby

I'm not sure how old your son is, but if he likes skating, he might enjoy junior roller derby. The season runs February to October (ages 7-17), boys and girls welcomed, and it's a lot of fun!

He's not into sports? Does he want to do something artistic? Maybe an instrument?
