That’s still hard to prove. Even with a bank statement, saying how much you took out, and still had. I could go to the bank, withdraw a $1000, go spend it all, then have my wallet stolen and claim money was in there. The statement says how much you took out, but not what you did with it after. There is no complete way to prove how much was actually in the wallet at the time unless they catch someone and that person admits how much there was.
I know you know how much was in there, but that’s not proof. They could say there was $50 in the wallet when they found it, and that’s all they’d be liable for. Only way to prove theft is catching them using your debit card/credit card, that money in a card can be recovered. But not physical cash.
My teen just had her bag stolen with wallet, phone, etc. We had to move on and replace all it ourselves. The money she lost is gone. A relative just had her wallet stolen with $1000 cash and mastercards. The police caught the person (cause they used MasterCard on camera in a store). They got money back from the credit cards (as those are covered by bank/lender), but she is still out the $1000 cash. You can’t trace cash.
It sucks, but threatening people isn’t the way to go. You catch more flies with sugar. Just my opinion.
