Subect Lines / Insensitivity
4/11/2009 at 7:13 PM
I am getting my nose a little out of joint lately with *some* fellow eBrandoners.
It was suggested and enforced that we are to try and be as descriptive as possible in our titles to avoid luring people in, or inconveniencing others with posts that are unrelated to some readers. Okay, so this has been done and I see a lot of good sports respecting this courtesy.
But why in the world would someone click on a link that is clearly titled something, that they find necessary to bash the poster with responses like 'who cares'?
It is unnecessary, frustrating and incredibly rude. If the Subject Line pertains to something you do not care about, then save yourself the effort and energy at reading and responding to ask 'WHY'? Obviously people are posting their opinions here in a variety of directions (race, children, music choices, etc) and we should all feel free enough to post/respond without feeling intimidated that someone is going to jump on it just for the sake of having their opinion 'the loudest'.
I guess what I am trying to say, is that differences in opinions and perspectives are inevitable ... but sometimes the choices to oppose or support in a thread is fueled more by an antagonistic nature than that of a sincere desire to constructively partake in a community forum.
I am not bringing this out to start a debate ontop of a debate, but just to implore *some others* to lighten up and think before you post from now on. This is a very informative, welcoming and useful resource that I am seeing some members become driven away into silence by the threat of cyber bullies. I read left, right and center of people hesitating to post legitimate threads for fear of being attacked with no apparent justification. Don't ruin a good thing for others just because relative anonymity gives you the perception that you can.
