This may have come up before and if so, i'm sorry. But over the past few days, I've seen some pretty crazy things. And this is my rant.  
 
I'm not the perfect driver and i'm know I've made mistakes when driving, but people come on.  
 
This one post is to the women in the maroon color vehicle around 4:10 pm, today. I was going north on 10th street. I HAD the green light, you had a red light, and still turned north off Rosser, not only did you run a red light, but you turned from the parking spot on Rosser in front of the Scotia bank, after you RAN the RED light, you immediately took a right and pulled into the parking spot on the right side of 10th street, beside the Decker, and you didn't use a turn signal. I had to swerve to avoid hitting you. I had my son and his friend in the car with me.  
 
I work nights, so not usually out and about, but with the holidays coming, i've had to go out during the day lately. And after going from my house to my son's school, I remember why i do work nights. To avoid accidents, cause I've witnessed 3 in the past 24 hours. That is way too many IMO...  
 
So that's my rant. Bring on the negative comments, as always on Ebrandon. Again, let me emphasize, I AM NOT A PERFECT DRIVER, and YES I"VE MADE MISTAKES WHEN DRIVING, but to run a red light, not use a turn signal, turn from a parking space onto a thorough fare, when not safe...come on folks. Use your brains, thank god, I was paying attention.  
 
Rant over.

There will always be bad drivers no matter where you go in what City, village or town in anywhere, Canada. Calling out the (insert colour) car at (insert street intersection) here is just redundant.  
 
It only serves the person who is peeved off who more than likely doesn't read this anyway.  
 
Enough of traffic rants. Just drive like a human being people, smile, wave people along and leave 10 minutes early.

I mentioned nothing about my personal life, except my son being with me...what in the world did i think coming onto a public forum, to rant about something. That was just wrong of me!!!1  
 
Its called a public forum for a reason. If you don't like what i post, don't read or comment for that matter.

everyone is so involved in themselves these days, they don't care. therefore they don't pay attention, therefore they cause accidents...but who cares if they cause an accident, it could just happen to kill someone...but hey they don't give a s*^% about anyone but themselves.  
 

there are some crazy drivers out there. Posting a discussion on eBrandon should not spark a bunch of negative posts. Unless those posting negatively are one of the crazy drivers themselves.  
 
Like you said we all make mistakes driving and hope that nothing bad comes of it. Most times we get away with it and try to do better.  
 
IMO people are focused, like you said, on themselves. They are driving with their minds a million miles away thinking of other things. When in fact they should be more present in the moment and focus on the driving. Christmas time is probably the worse time of year for that behaviour. All us less crazier drivers can do is pay attention to what we are doing at the moment and hopefully prevent accidents with the more crazier drivers.

I feel your pain! As I work from home, I don't drive as often as I used too, sometimes only 1-2x a week now. However, I don't think there's a single time that I don't come home thanking my lucky stars that I wasn't in an accident!! Lol. I witness so many accidents and close calls almost every time I'm out.  
 
The older I get, the more I realize that I just wanna get home safe and in one piece....and not be the reason that someone else doesn't!  
 
I really think that licensing needs to be retested at least 2-3x in a persons life. I also am not a perfect driver and make mistakes too but some people actually drive in dangerous ways all the time, not just the odd mistake here or there. Perhaps it's because they just don't know better?? Maybe retests would help? Maybe not.

with the retesting for the license...would be interesting to see how many people would actually pass. I'm sure we all have bad habits when driving, that would be an instant fail.  
 
I'm just glad I was paying attention. It could have been a lot worse if i wasn't. I think the frustrating thing, was as I passed the vehicle after swerving, she looked right at me with a dazed look on her face.

For what it's worth, you used to be able to turn left on a red there. The city changed the streets and then changed them back again, but some people may have gotten used to the "left turn permitted on red" and forgotten that it's no longer a one way. And no it wasn't me, my car is gray

I've been dealing with pedestrians who dare you to hit them walking in front of you like you don't exist. The latest one was around 5:30pm on 6th st. just south of Princess Ave. I'm not sure how I didn't hit the bugger and that's even only driving 30km per hour.

Was in Brandon today for the first time in about 6 months. While the city was busy, I found the traffic and drivers quite obliging.

someone is a bit defensive. what colour is your vehicle?

we all have bad days, and there are some drivers who are very obliging. especially when it comes to merging and allowing the traffic to flow. and with how busy the city is getting, it gets frustrating when you see careless mistakes happen.  
 
Blu Guru, i am defensive...I had my child and his friend in the car. If i had hit the other vehicle, my son would be in the hospital or worse. so yes, when it comes to my childs health and well being, i get very defensive. she made a careless mistake, that could have ended up a lot worse had I not been paying attention. My car is blue, a ford, if you must know. But as I said in my original post, I'm not a perfect driver, and yes i have made mistakes, not that careless a mistake, I've never ran a red light, not used turns signals, cut someone off, then look at them like they are the idiot, all at one time.

Sorry to the oncoming drivers I flashed on 1st street around 730pm....I was trying to get the attention of the vehicle ahead of me....they didn't have their lights on!

I swear that in all the places I've been/visited, Brandon has to be one of THE worst cases of horrible drivers I've ever encountered.  
 
NOBODY knows what a turn signal is. I swear that each and every day, I am not on the road 10 mins and see a dozen people never use their signal when they obviously should be.  
 
You have every right to rant about whatever you desire, as this is in fact a public forum. Whether the rant is positive or negative, you DO have the right to free speech.  
 
Obviously, the Negative Nellies on here just need someone to bark at. You're right - if they don't like it - don't comment and stay away from the post. Done and done.  
 
Meanwhile, those that have like-minded opinions on whatever the post is, are there to support.  
 
I too, would like to see MPI retest EVERYONE every 15 years or so. I bet half the people driving, wouldn't have a license afterward.

Yes, Brandon has the WORST drivers in the ENTIRE WORLD. Everybody says that their city has the worst, but they are obviously incorrect. Brandon beats them all.

Speak as if it's a new phenomenon that people forget how to drive in Winter. It's been like that since I started on the road years ago.  
 
I'm no saint either btw, I have my fair share of coming close to sliding through an intersection for like the first couple/few days but after that I learn from the mistake and try my damndest to be careful about the conditions.

and people I know coming from west and east of Manitoba find Brandon be slow drivers.  
Quite few signal same time as they turn...well too late now I can tell now you are turning or they do not turn until there are no vehicle at all for at least a block away. They can't judge distances.  
Burns me up when drivers do not move thinking they will let you go by first ...then NO as you get there they cut you off in slow motion and what worse at times is they were not other cars behind me so why cut me off.  
I guess not enough big cities in Manitoba they are not used to move around, look, think, focus all at once.

I usually let the stupid stuff, such as no turn signal or something like that,go and not how as much concern, but running a red light, with traffic flowing both ways, just sent me over the edge. Sorry if i was a little snarly.

Either, and as some have said, it would be interesting to see who would pass the test now, if they had to take another. We all have bad habits, me too.  
 
Today, i can look at it and be greatful, i was paying attention. I normally slam on my breaks in that instant, but i have a standard, and My car would either stall, or breaks would lock, and I' would have had a harder time controlling the car.  
 
Besides the rant, i want to make people aware. Be careful out there.  
 
On a side Note: As for the Brandon having the worse drivers, i think that's funny. I've driven in major cities, like Vancouver, at rush hour, and would take driving in Vancouver or Calgary at 5:00 on a friday any day, to driving in Brandon. I jut don't find the traffic flows as nicely, be it from the timing on lights or what.

Most have no idea how a four-way stop works. SMH

Reality is everyone thinks their a good driver and better than the next person. No point in even arguing about it.

If MPI did something crazy... Like making drivers do a two part drivers test, one in the summer and one in the winter. It might teach people how to actually drive in the winter. Rather than learning by experience...as they slide through intersections. Though that still won't help with the idiots who don't pay attention, but it might help! LOL->: Or we gotta put up merit/demerit posters, I for one wouldn't be driving near Miss Negative Nancy haha and maybe she'd drive better purely out of embarrassment for her score.

the difference between driving in brandon and other larger centers like Calgary or edmonton, regina or saskatoon is that the the traffic is so much worse in the bigger centers and drivers know it it. They know they have to give a little and the vast majority do so willingly as they know they will be next.

in Brandon we tend to think we are small town enough that we own the road, the other driver can just bloody well wait for me attitude.

it makes sense. You do learn real quick how to properly merge. If you don't, you insurance will definitely teach you after the accident. lol  
 
winter doesn't make it easier...and i like what the previous poster said about the merit system idea. it would be interesting to see what would happen. or even the retesting by MPI.  
 

Retesting would be complicated, very costly and only make us drivers with full merits pay more in insurance. You know that would be a good excuse to raise insurance rates. Really, there are a lot more good drivers than bad ones, it is just that no one mentions them.

with that statement. There are some good drivers out there. and as I have said in previous posts, we all have bad days, and even good drivers make mistakes.  
 
you are right, the bad drivers are mentioned more, cause it seems like there are so many more bad then good.

One of the Mysteries of life and in particular the thoughts that goes through the Human Mind.  
It appears that some, not all but some see Driving in the City or anywhere as their private playground which nobody is allowed to play in, Road Rages, Fender Benders and even the one finger salute.  
It seems that as the holidays approach certain people forget common courtesy, as well as Common Sense...It's like the old saying about full moons bringing out the "more stupid side of people"  
Everybody should relax, take a deep Breathe, and say "Good Day EH!" This is suppose to be Friendly Manitoba and Not Welcome to Canada's Worst Driver's  
 
Thanks for Ranting as its a gift we all possess and should use it more often, on Social Media of course and not on the roads.
