Long Distance

Hi Folks,
I'd appreciate input on telephone long distance options. I make several overseas and North American calls and I'm working on a project that will result in a "lot" of overseas and North American calls.
I've been reading the posts on Skype... is this the way to go? Scrap my land line and use the internet and cel?.
Any input appreciated.
