I am wondering what options there are for home phones in MB, specifically rural MB? We currently have MTS but I'm finding it's pricey for just a basic phone (no caller ID, no answering service etc).

if you have decent internet you could try an internet phone like vonage or simular.

You can get a home phone for 40.00 a month, i:ncludes unlimited long distance!

I have home phone through Telus....cost is $10 month and no long distance in canada. The service runs through the cell tower and you can also port your number.

Can you narrow down your location. WCG has telephone in 90% of thier rural towns that they service.

Rogers home phone, i:ncludes all features plus voicemail, unlimited Canada wide calling. Buy the wireless home phone received. 13.00 per month for the service. Works great in rural areas.

We added a home phone for $10 to our cell phone package.

We ported our landline to a Rogers home phone service, and love it.  
The box simulates the landline wiring, so you just plug your regular phone into it.  
As long as cell signal indoors is stable, it works perfectly and is SO much cheaper.

We also made the switch for $10 a month! We also have 2 cells phone with Telus.

We also live in rural Manitoba, have has Telus wireless home phone since March. Did not have to loose my home original home phone number with the switch and have not noticed any difference in calling. The box that plugs in has battery back up so even if the power goes you can still call out. I do keep a corded phone as well as a cordless connected to this box. Much cheaper than bell/mts!

I live 10 miles North of Brandon and have had it for about 5 years and no issues. Because it still runs off off cellular and it's powered from a box in your home, you will lose your phone when the power goes out. Because of that, I contacted Manitoba Hydro and added mine and my husbands cell phone numbers to our account so that when the power goes out we can phone it in and it will recognize our numbers and know our location.
