Just wondering if anyone can help me with a couple questions related to Google Drive.  
 
I have files in a few different locations (laptop, desktop, tablet) that are all backed up onto my Google Drive. I want to consolidate them all onto my desktop because it just seems messy the way I have everything now.  
 
My plan was to just delete everything off of Google Drive, consolidate everything onto my desktop, delete the duplicate files from my laptop and tablet, and then re-upload everything to Google Drive. Then, I think I should be able to view all of documents from any location, but everything is stored in one place.  
 
Good idea or bad idea? If I delete files on my Google Drive, will it affect the original copy?

It won't affect the original copy on your desktop.  
But you should disable the account synchronization from on all your devices first. Then download all files from your google drive to your desktop, modify what you want to do. After that, you can enable the account synchronization again.  
If you don't disable the account synchronization, it will upload your data to Google drive and your data will be duplicated.
