HI looking for VPN recommendations? Found the thread from last year, but as things change so fast in technology, just wondering if there are any new and improved VPNs.

Avoid the sketchy free ones and the sketchy paid ones, too...which is a large number of them.  
 
What is the purpose of your VPN use? pr0n, or skirting the GFOC?

AVG VPN. got it at Best Buy. it covers 5 devices

I use PIA VPN and I wouldn't use anything else.  
 
Can use it on up to 10 devices, there is an iOS app for PIA and i use it on my Mac. So many servers to choose from, they allow torrenting, secure VPN account, unlimited bandwidth.  
 
There are a few good deals happening right now and its worth looking into for sure! Been using it for a few months and as i type this, from Glasgow Scotland, I am appearing to be in Montreal right now!

I feel I need it for work.  
 
On another note - why did my notifications that there are new replies not work?

I am totally clueless with tech stuff...actually, even reading this thread has me confused LOL...but today I watched dr Phil and it was about hacking and cyber security. At the end of the show, one of the tips was to use a VPN whenever you’re at hotels or restaurants or whatever... does anyone have more info on this and what would be a safe, trusted VPN company?

I use Express VPN, super easy to set up and activate when I need it. Up to 5 devices, $10/month. There are a bunch of helpful videos about why to use, how to use and how to set up on your devices.

You can try this one,just start with their free version and if you are happy with the speed then get the unlimited one,express vpn is good too but windscribe is much more cheaper.

I saw that one, and that's not even the worst examples. (though nearly giving a baby heat stroke is pretty brutal).  
 
Off topic, anyone who gets IOT devices, make sure to secure them properly.

PIA has recently announced that they are being acquired by Kape Technologies, a company notorious for including malware, adware and browser hijacks in its software installation packages.  
 
I would hesitate to trust PIA going forward.

So if your using a VPN to get around geographic content restrictions, how do you deal with your email address that they require when you subscribe to the service? Also how do you get around paying the fee on your CC. Would that not identify the country your in?  
In both cases, it's not an effort to get anything free.

Your why would that matter? Gmail and hotmail, etc are global, and even if you use a provider based email, that doesn’t mean you can’t travel to other countries with your mobile devices and use your services.  
Same for payment info address. Even if these companies were interested in sifting through that info, it doesn’t determine where you are physically located at any given time.

So are you speaking from experience or just making assumptions? Does anyone have any experience or results on any pitfalls in attempting to subscribe to geographic restricted content? By using a VPN

I am speaking from experience from using PIA. Just because one company purchases/merges with another doesn't mean its automatically full of malware and garbage. Its literally just a VPN client on each of my devices.  
 
Using the VPN can bypass most if not all geographical locks. I simply select a server in the country i want ( USA server for USA streaming services ) and away i go.  
 
Speeds are fine for me with PIA. Torrenting is adequately fast relative to my internet connection speed at home.  
 
By the way, as far as anyone is concerned right now... I appear to be in Ireland typing this response.

I use IPVanish. They have an app available for my phone, tablet or laptop. The monthly cost is reasonable and have a multitude of servers from around the world that you can use.  
 
Last month we were in the Dominican for a vacation and had issues with getting my email from my ISP. Turning the app on, on my phone solved the problem as the ISP thought I was back in Canada and didn't block the connection. I have had issues with online services in the past not liking me connecting down there, thinking I am a hacker or something. Using a VPN usually solves the problem.
