Hi. I would like to get opinions on the most RELIABLE backup solutions for my data on my home computer. This is primarily pictures, and some important computer files. I'm not interested in cloud storage. I've had 2 external hard drives fail, possibly from lack of use (used once every year or so, not from misuse). I was wondering about USB flash drives, or external SSDs. I'd go with DVDs, but that is a dying technology, even though I plan on keeping a DVD burner in my desktop for years to come. As I mentioned, reliability is the most important issue, with cost being a distant second. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Well you have already shot down the most RELIABLE backup solution for your computer. Pretty much everyone uses Microsoft Onedrive or Gmail cloud, etc. I have a duel bay cloud back up for my own stuff. If one drive goes down the other is retained. Put in another drive and it rebuilds the data. If it is not a lot of info go with cloud. What happens if your house is on fire? Lot of use a back up does. Never put all your eggs in one basket.

Not interested in cloud storage here either.  
 
I've used a WD portable drive since 2014 and it's still working. It's handled everything as far as size; its portability allows you to safely store your backup data somewhere else. Flashdrives work great for extra backup.

Amazon's got Seagate's they're best bet just load all the important stuff on both and keep one unplugged in case of your computer F***ing them up which happens a lot more often than you could imagine. 1 or 2 TBs is really cheap.
