At the moment, I am running Debian alongside Linux Mint. I was (as per a recent thread) Debian only until recently, but I had issues finding a driver for an older Samsung Lazer printer I own, and couldn't get Dropbox syncing. Which is important, since it serves as one part of my backup of an ongoing project. Thus I write (work) in Mint and do everything else in Debian.
Meh. Keeps me on task lol.
For the beginner, I would dual boot Mint Cinnamin (that is my preferred environment, anyhow) alongside Windows 7, or even 10. You can access your Windows files from the Linux side (follow the profile directories), and you have WIN if you need it.
And there is WINE for transitioning some Windows programs into Linux itself. I have yet to need to use it, however.
And VEGIMITE is right... .be careful what you click and where you download your packages on Linux as well. Though it is better simply on account to being a smaller target than WIN, nothing is 100% safe. Particularly now that Windows 7 and 10 users are starting to shift over enmass.
I always wondered how many Linux people were in Brandon.
