microphone on google chrome

I'm having trouble with the microphone on google chrome....when I click on it it says "not working or set up or something like that. the sound on everything else works but just not on google chrome...any easy, understandable way to make this work? I have googled everything about it, but can't seem to get it to work...thanks for any easy solution....
